Mrsccm is muttering about getting a cheap smartphone. Her current phone is , like mine, a 10 quid plus some credit job. It gets little use as we don't get coverage at home, it can't be on and isn't needed at home and like me she uses it occasionally, say once a fortnight or less. the smart phone thing is because her mates have one. Apart from the odd call or text I suppose it may get used to check shopping prices etc .
Whats the collective opinion on something like a Samsung Galaxy Y? They are silly cheap at place like the carphone warehouse on an upgrade basis, sticking with the wifes Orange number.
anything to be aware of bearing in mind the above.?
Second hand, off classifieds here. I have bought two for sons, and they are ace for the money. One is HTC Desire C and HTC Wildfire. Both £35/40 in immaculate condition.
I told Orange that I was going to leave for a better deal at Tesco. 10 minutes later I've got a deal with Orange for £8 a month and a Galaxy Ace 2.
i bought a galaxy ace from car phone warehouse for 7.50/month.
using talkmobile network.
dont bother.
can hardly get a signal on phone or internet. both at home and work.
very frustrating, and i live in excellent reception area.
i used to be with vodaphone and had no problems at all in any area.
i would recommend going for a better known provider and pay a little more.
no point having state of the art internet phone if u cant access it.
That's very odd.
Talkmobile use Vodafones network.
Mine works fine too... apart, weirdly, from when I am in Tesco.
Iv never had a signal in Tesco and im on 02.
I'd get one of these if I didn't have a work phone.
If you can get used to Windows 8 and not having a "2 way" camera, can't fault it.
Got one for my kid last year at £7.50pm. Ideal.
"That's very odd.
Talkmobile use Vodafones network."
thats what carphonewarehouse told me , and added that vodafone use booster aerials which talk mobile do not have the use of.
The just released Motorola Moto G I'd meant to be a great entry level smart phone. Or the ZTE Blade V.
sorry, should said PAYG as she tops us less than me and I spend about 20 quid a year including overnights away from home.
Xmas pressy so new only.
The Y is sub 50 quid which 5 times more than either of paid for our last phones.
On Orange to keep old number and get a deal as an upgrade

OH has got a Samsung Galaxy Ace. To be honest, it's a bit rubbish. Slow, screen resolution is poor and it doesn't have much onboard memory.
You'd probably be better off getting a second hand HTC Desire or similar.
Funnily enough I am just uploading an auction to eBay for one, not that it's probably fair to put the link here.
Get an iPod Touch. It does everything a smartphone does (except GPS/satnav) but uses wifi instead of 3G. Perfect for you if you have no reception at your house.

Bear in mind that she currently is happy with something that cost 10 quid new.
think I had better look at some. Bugger that means a trip to the big city.
anyone tried a firefox phone yet? Think they are about £50.
2nd hand HTC desire s, good smartphone. £45 ish on ebay
Vodafone do an android based smartphone for £50 which is good value, my mum and mother in law both have them. It can connect to WIFI at home if she wants so she can use some features without signal.
Means transferring your number to vodafone but I think that is easy enough. Saying that, vodafone seem to have good coverage so you may even find it works at home?
Ta
quite why we need it to work at home I don't know but the last idea sounds good.
Can i cut to the chase? All (to avoid any argumentsets just use android as an example) smartphones DO the same thing (in the same way that a £400 windows 7 laptop does the same as a £600 windows laptop.)
One will do the same things better than the.other. All you need to avoid is a phone that tries to do more than its hardware can handle. If you buy a really cheap one itll be shite. And frustrating. And just shite.
As a minimum id be looking at sort of Xperia E level. Go cheaper than that and itll end up in the bin out of annoyance.

Get a smart phone connected to your wifi then use whatsapp to text and photo message via the internet. Perfect for places without a phone signal. (If you have the internet? )
Sony Xperia U is a nice size for 'laidee' size hands. And has come down in price recently.
