Edit - just heard from a colleague - maybe a laptop but I suppose the Q is more mic-related really
I'm going to try to source a mic for my work as there's a whole roomful of people who I fairly frequently have to t/c with and I can't hear a thing. Pretty sure they're on an ipad or something like (will check obvs) but the audio (they're trying to keep 2m apart in a big room too) is bloody awaful and they need a mic in the middle of the big table.
What might work - preferaby wired to reduce one layer of complexity, I think
Don't need concert-grade acoustics, just to be able to hear actual words from around 2-3m away in a room - multi/omni directional
We use a Jabra Speak 510 in our meeting rooms at work

Jabra 510 if you can find one. Excellent device.
off to google that one, ta - goes without saying, cheap please (NHS rules apply - we've spent all our cash on bleach and sunbeds)
Ooooh, that Jabra looks OK - you just plug into a laptop and away you go ?
Jabra 710 here, utterly fantastic device, I bought mine just before the lockdown when I realised I was going to be doing constant calls from home.
Its simply very, VERY good at what it does.
Simply plug and play, and as you can see in this pic, it knows when you're on a call or not etc. - the 710 is bluetooth as well, which provides the best quality call - and you can leave it plugged into the USB for power.
Another Vote for the Jabra, though i'd get the 810 if funds can stretch, it's much better for larger rooms. You can plug it in via USB or 3.5mm jack or Bluetooth! Sound quality is really good!! I got one for our work, which when set up works brillinatly, though i seemed to have some IT plebs when i wasn't around that couldnt figure it out..
Something else to consider with the Jabra's is that they can be run in a stereo pair also. Not sure it that is the same for the mic, but certainly would improve the sound (for listening to music, for example).
Yep, Jabra speak or similar will be an improvement although with 2m distancing may still struggle.
If there’s budget, Sennheiser do a great conference set of wireless mics that all join together. https://en-uk.sennheiser.com/teleconference-meeting-teamconnect-wireless-audio-solutions
Or the Yamaha system lets you chain a bunch of extra (wired) mics https://europe.yamaha.com/en/products/unified_communications/speakerphones/yvc-1000/index.html
Jabra for us. I use a small 410? In the office at home and bigger versions in the conference rooms at work.
For some reason they are popular (see above) so we have them bolted or wired to the table to stop people ‘borrowing them’. Just something to consider.
