Are there any graphics-types on here who could recommend me some? My lecturer has suggested Faber Castell TG1: how do they compare to, say Rotring?

They'll be used for producing geological maps and sections.

Yep, rapidograph or isograph if you want more servicability (if they're still available).

Out graduates get given a rotring 'college set' that has a few bits in it including 3 different size rapidographs.

Just googled it, you can get a college set of rapidograph or isograph.

I've got a pile of rotring and faber and spare nibs for both that hasn't been touched for years, what sizes are you after?

Software not an option: this is for a 10 day assessed field trip. Everything has to be handed in at the end of the trip.

Damn, I was having a conversation about Rotring and various other technical pens over the pub last weekend!
I used Rotring Variant, Staedtler Mars 700 series and Pentel Ceranomatic pens, the Pentel pens had a ceramic tip to help stop them wearing when used on Kodatrace draughting film, which would destroy a regular steel nib the first time you used it.
Still got a few, not sure how well they work now, the Pentel pens couldn't be dismantled if they dried out and got blocked up.
Hmmm, seems that Ceranomatic pens are no longer available, and are now something of a collectible...

$149.00 for an unused 0.25 😯

Ex-cartographer here, geology graduate too. Mikey74, where are you. I might be able to help, provided that I can find the pens.

Do you have access to an ultrasonic cleaner or similar by any chance?

As Anbrose said, plus this question was asked a year or two ago, you might try a search.

Hi Ambrose,

I'm just south of London, but I don't have access to an ultrasonic cleaner.

@ slowoldgit: I think it was me that asked it, but I or some some fibre-tipped ones instead. However, now I'm doing the BSc, it's worth investing in the proper thing.

Hi Mikey- I've found three boxes with stuff in. Some works, some may work, some may not. Message me your address and they are yours for the price of the postage- placed into the Air Ambulance/ MRT/ Lifeboats collection tin next time you see one.

Ambrose.
