Original 1981 TV series of John Wyndhams apocalyptic man eating plant story is being repeated on BBC4! I remember it, as a very scared 7 year old, hiding behind the sofa from the INCREDIBLY TERRIFYING TRIFFIDS.

(and, it's still surprisingly good / terrifying all this time later, as it has good dialogue rather than relying on amazing special effects like so many modern versions.......)

I'm the same, remember watching it as a 10 year old and being scared by it, i even found the title music scary.

You can sense peoples desperation. Good use of music also.

It was great

I wanted to go to a party with a trifid sting on my face and my mum wouldn't let me

I really enjoyed those two episodes and I'm looking forward to watching the next ones.

I was in junior school when this was originally on and feel terribly old after watching that. 😳

Missed this as a child (not much TV watching when I grew up, mainly due to parents and schools), and it's been a bit of a cultural gap.

While this is a crap PSA - halfway through ep2? - I'll make sure I catch up!

Scared me as a kid. The 80s had some really good TV dramas.

Mind you, Blakes 7 hasn't aged as well...

Wow, was that '81?

Definitely struck a chord with me at the time as a little one.
Interested to see it again!

I really rate John Wyndham. Triffids is good but my favourite is "the Kraken Wakes", it's a bit dated now but the slow motion stealthy build up to the fall of man is done really well and there are some proper chilling moments when they are on the research ships being hunted and observed by the opposition.
