I'm on holiday in France and planning to go to Pau for the individual TT. I've only been to the tour when it was in Yorkshire. Does anyone have any advice for watching a TT stage?

Get the eurosport app on your phone, then it doesn't matter where you sit, unless you want to be at the start/finish. Otherwise you just be watching blokes in body condoms and pointy hats fly past at 30+mph for a few seconds

It lasts an age, don’t worry about missing the odd rider. The GC go at the end of course. If you can get within a few hundred metres of the finish it’s a much better experience. Take a hat and some water and sun spray! Something to sit on would be good too.

We watched Wiggins win the TDF at Chartres. What a day!

I'd try and get on one of the climbs otherwise they'll be going past at 35+mph

Watched the ToB team time trial last year, I'd echo the above - finish line, a steep climb or start line for the best view / experience. No steep climbs on the Pau TT so start line or finish line will be best. Get to the start line early enough and you'll see the teams warming up (Jumbo Visma were just getting off their turbos) and possibly heading out for a recce

Would echo the advice above. The TDF is a carnival and it’s worth approaching the whole thing in the spirit if your watching live. Tablet or phone with Eurosport, or get close to a big screen if the race matters. Place yourself on the racing line on a hill or sharp corner - anywhere the riders will slow. If you like a gorm at people and bikes get to the start zone early enough. Practise shouting Aleze in your best French.

Thanks. I think we’ve picked a corner. I remember the atmosphere from 2014 in Yorkshire. We’ll be there pretty early.

Defo watch it on your phone, not particularly the best spectator sport is cycling.

Hope you enjoyed what was probably the best TT of the modern era. Where did you end up watching?
