Like every man and his dog we are going to try and watch Le Tour as it passes by and will be playing with the kids to keep them entertained as we wait.
How can we stay in touch with the race though? 5 live sports extra seem to have an hour or so of coverage each day but is it possible to listen to "race radio" or can my phone leap to the rescue with an online option?
Need to know if I need to buy anything 🙂

Cyclingnews do text based coverage and I imagine the BBC will do one as well, they have in the past. Tour Radio isn't that useful, its purpose is communicating with the cars so it is all about which riders needs help, whether they can come up and follow a break after a sufficent gap has formed etc etc. The cars generally know where they are.

EDIT I think you might be able to get Eurosport audio only as well.

Steephill might be a plan and when I had Eurosport their commentary was OK. Want audio so I can still actually do something with the kids at the same time. Tablet Bluetooth tethered to phone could be the battery life solution as well...
As for data, always enjoy testing the "unlimited data" bit of my 3 contract, so that should be OK 🙂

Try the app, you should be able to turn off streaming video if you have data concerns. Though with that many people sat around facebooking and bitching on forums about crowds, having to walk, rain etc. mobile signal/bandwidth might be hard to come by.
