Shocking news.
Love the foo fighters. I wonder if they will cancel the rest of their tour? I was watching a clip of him being interviewed a few weeks back and he looked really unwell then I thought. Really sad to hear this.
That's just terrible. Such a talent and presence.
I watched some of his drumming masterclass videos relatively recently on Six music channel.
Horrible news.
That’s shite news. Such a sad day for the family.
Am shocked and extremely sad.
A brilliant drummer and had a very tight bond with Grohl.
RIP Taylor
Rubbish news.
Will be playing then loudly later today.
Terrible news ☹️
Very sad, way too young to be taken😢
Bugger.
Sad news, too soon to be taken.
Jeez 😔
Very shocked to hear this, was only telling someone yesterday how much I'm looking forward to seeing them in June. I've been a foo fighters fan since the beginning and in Taylor they found possibly the only person who could drum with Dave G. Not just his style but his personality, you could tell they had a bond different to the rest of the band. 50 is way too young, RIP doesn't seem appropriate here, I doubt he did anything peacefully.
Shit, that's not news I wanted to wake up to.
Great drummer and seemingly a great bloke. He'll be missed.
Gutted. So many memories connected to their music, this one is a standout. Heaven just got a little cooler and louder.
Sad news. The Foos are a big part of the soundtrack to our family. We played them around the kids growing up and they still listen to them now, as do we.
We have tickets to see them at OT this summer. Should be some emotional moments if they go ahead with the tour.
A superb musician.
Great singer as well. Real feeling. RIP.
Sad news, he actually sang a cover of pink Floyd's have a cigar that was better than the original, which is no mean feat , RIP
Do we know why yet? Very sad.
Rotten news. I'm sure he was a MTBer as well?
The Foos are as much about him as they are about Dave.
Singing with a couple of old duffers as backup...
So sad!
Got tickets for June and was excited to see them again. RIP
Bloody hell, proper gutted. 😥 50 is far too young. One of the best drummers in the world.
Him and Dave are/were the backbone of the Foos, he never seemed to age. I'd still hoped to see them live at some point, my favourite band without doubt and I don't think there's a song of theirs I don't love.
Not sure how/if they'll recover from this? 😢
RIP Taylor, gone far too soon.
Not sure how/if they’ll recover from this? 😢
Nandi?
Nandi?
Now that would be pretty cool!
Perhaps speculation about a replacement would be better kept for another time.
First band I ever saw aged 14 on the colour & the shape tour. Last saw them at MK bowl, and have tickets for Villa Park.
So sad. Loved seeing them at Leeds in 05. One of the most memorable parts was Taylor singing and Dave on the drums for one song.
Perhaps speculation about a replacement would be better kept for another time.
I really doubt his friends family and colleagues are reading this thread.
Had he been ill?
Gutted. 2 years older than me, sat here hopping I have more time but guess we never know, love the music and the man seemed pretty cool. RIP
Real shame. I have seen him in a couple of interviews and other stuff and just seemed a really nice normal bloke (as are the rest of the foo fighters to from what I have seen).
Very sad indeed.
Such a sad loss to the Rock world ,a truly great drummer .
I've been fortunate enough to see him play a couple of times, the respect between him and Dave G on stage was great to see .
Sad times 😶
Had he been ill?
Mid tour I believe (though may be proven wrong) so that would kinda imply not a known illness (meaning physical, rather than a possible mental issue). Though hadn't realised how old he actually was
Bugger. Foo Fighters, and by that I guess I mean Grohl and Hawkins, were/are such a force both of great music and absorbing personalities.
Hawkins and Warne a couple of weeks ago - it feels like the personality is being stripped out of my generation.
I saw the Foo's 2 days after the Chili Peppers a few years back and it was night and day in terms of quality . Keidis seemed a dick . Grohl seemed like a guy you talk to on yer dug walk but dont really know. Taylor just seemed to fit in and seemed a good decent guy .
Dont know what to say other than I'ts a sad travesty a young talented man has died . What also seems weird is he didn't seem a Caner , died in his hotel room normally implies soembody has misdudged local strength of drugs . Taylor soen't fit this theory .
Anyhoo rest In Beats Taylor , you will be missed.
Such was the presence of Taylor in the band that I don't believe they should replace him and a line should be drawn with the end of Foo Fighters. RIP Taylor
Massive shame. Seen him/them a lot of times (got tickets for June in Milan too).
This is worth a watch (more Dave focused), but only available for 1 more day.

That’s fine then. Crack on.
Early tox reports are saying at least 10 different psychotropics in his blood tests according to our local gobsh1te newspaper.
50 is no age these days. What a sad time for his friends and family. I hope his gets the respect he deserves and the peace and love without the negativity that will undoubtedly transpire.
Think I've listened to Everlong about 20 times already today.
That’s fine then. Crack on.
Just to clear this up. Nandi's a little girl who challenged Grohl to a drum off on YouTube and then was invited to join them on stage at a later gig. Not really speculation about who's going to replace Taylor.

I get that and my comment wasn’t really directed at anyone in particular, More pre-emptive against the thread taking that direction. I probably just read too much into a couple of posts.
😃
aphex - bbc also reporting 10 drugs based on blood tests; opioid, marinara and anti-depressants.
Quite a cocktail.

Quite a cocktail.
I made the mistake of going on twitter yesterday and the anti vax mob were all over his death. According to them Taylor was an anti vaxxer, believed vaccines cause autism etc but he was forced by Grohl to take the vaccine if he wanted to remain in the band🙄
I wonder how this cocktail of medications will fit in with their conspiracy nonsense
opioid, marinara and anti-depressants.
I'd imagine marinara could be a bit thick in the bloodstream, especially if it has meatballs in it...
Sadly I imagine this may have been an accidental overdose, perhaps brought on by co-medications blocking the normal route of metabolism of opioids. That then gives a higher exposure for a given dose, and higher exposures suppress breathing and are fatal. This is the opioid epidemic seen in the US, where such medical actions are much more widely available than here. See Michael Jackson for previous.
I wasn’t surprised to see an opioid on the list.
On iplayer, if you go into the music category, there is an ace 1hr interview with Steve L from radio 6. They are in a studio in Maida Vale and its just great easy watching.
I hope someone enjoys it as much as me

Stop focussing on the manner of his death, and remember the manner of his living…

Just watched this on Youtube. The guy clearly loved his music and doing what he did in the Foos (and with Alanis). Pretty shocking to think he's now no longer with us. As many have already said his music touched, and meant a lot to, many many people out there. He's left quite a legacy but gone far too soon...
Ain't it the life, just sail on by.
RIP
I remember seeing them a month after they released their first album, at the 95 reading festival
They were very loud as I recall…
😁

That was great, thank you for sharing - d'you get the impression they filmed a ton more and could do a two hour version? Great stuff. 🙂
Its Monday lunchtime here and I'm still gutted about this. I can't help think that it's the end of the Foos - he was such an integral part of the band.
I've been lucky enough to see them five or six times now I think, but (obviously) kicking myself that I just missed them in Sydney last month. They just felt like they would be around forever.... pffffff.
Sadly I imagine this may have been an accidental overdose, perhaps brought on by co-medications blocking the normal route of metabolism of opioids.
"Accidental overdose"?
The risk everyone who uses drugs takes, especially non-prescribed ones, every time they use drugs...

You're assuming the drugs weren't prescribed.
I did say "especially".
Last live show in full, complete with Taylor's Queen cover. He looked in good form.
RIP man.
So what's your point? If you're prescribed drugs then no, that really NOT a risk you're taking if your doctor is in any way competent.

I think everyone understands the difference between an overdose where someone intended to die vs recklessness or indifference to life vs just wanting to get high and making a mistake somewhere. I don't know (or care) if any of those is morally superior, but the implication is that he wasn't suffering with depression or some other crisis which offers some comfort to some people, I think?
That said, it sounds like he called for help for chest pains a short (?) while before he died. So maybe he just had a common-or-garden heart attack. None of the reports mention cocaine (frequently implicated in heart attacks) but when in Rome...
Anyway, this is all just speculation. I just hope the Foo Fighters can find a way carry on.
If you’re prescribed drugs then no, that really NOT a risk you’re taking if your doctor is in any way competent.
You might think, but it's a lot more complicated than that, sadly. A call for chest pain, might be onset of an arrhythmia, QT prolongation, TdP. My guess would be unexpected drug interaction.
RIP.
This Rolling Stone interview is interesting: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/taylor-hawkins-interview-foo-fighters-dave-grohl-nirvana-drumming-1327228/
The guy always seemed like really happy dude but reading the interview and autopsy report it seems to me that there were some dark shadows in parts of his life.
This just popped up on my youtube feed
🙁
Seemingly, if only he'd only taken is bike on tour...
