Hello all,

Anybody out there have any experience of the Taylor GS-mini acoustic guitar like this one?

https://www.andertons.co.uk/acoustic-dept/acoustic-guitars/travel-acoustic-guitars/taylor-gs-mini-acoustic-guitar-with-mahogany-top

I was looking at 3/4 guitars a couple of years back as I mainly play electrics, and like the way a mini acoustic has a similar feel and I can play it in the house without plugging in or annoying people. I ended up with a Takamine taka-mini GX11ME like this one:

I got it for a great price and it has a nice case, pre-amp, equaliser, mahogany top and plays quite well, although the tone is a little thin with the finger-friendly strings I have on it. Is the Taylor worth paying more than twice as much for (nearly 3 times with the electronics and mahogany)?

I should probably get down to the nearest guitar shop and give it a go, but a little scared I'd like it too much.

Cheers.

Not a player, or at least, not recently, but I know of many people who play those makes. Takamine guitars are used a lot on stage, I think because they’re tough instruments that sound good, and are moderately priced.
Taylor guitars seem to be used for stage work, probably because they’re that much more expensive, and I believe are lighter built, so the rigours of touring mean greater care needs to be taken.
I reckon I’ve seen probably three or four times as many Takamine guitars being played live than I have Taylor, but that is largely irrelevant here; the tone of the Takamine might benefit from heavier gauge strings, but try the Taylor, if only to scratch the itch!
How many guitars do you actually need? The usual answer is N+1, but that’s between you and your bank account... 😬

Interesting. The taka is a good guitar but it's the usual thing of thinking something out there is better.

How many guitars do you need? The strat for the, err, strat sound, the telecaster for that biting treble and beautiful, woody, neck pickup sound (my favourite guitar), the Gibson for the rock tones, the prs for the refinement, the twelve string for the Byrds and Beatles, etc, etc. They're all great.

My Niece has the Taylor, I helped her choose it at Andertons. Its a very bright sounding loud guitar and very very easily playable. It turned my head as I have a Takamine (dreadnought)which is a much more mellow sounding guitar.

I have a Baby Taylor and case to sell. Bought it for me and my eldest to learn on… and neither of us stuck with it.

I had a Taylor baby - it was okish

I played all the GS mini ins the shop (GAK) and ended up going with a Martin 000X1AE Electro Acoustic as it was quite a lot better even though its basically ply wood and compressed wood particles.

Still sold that bought a collings OM so what do I know
