Hi. Can anyone recommend a reliable taxi company for a return journey to Heathrow Terminal 5? There's 6 of us, fairly anti social hours after a long haul flight, so no one wants to drive and staying over isnt an option.

Given my success rate with Uber recently, I'm a bit wary when it comes to reliability.....

cheers

Ask on your local Facebook group. Probably one the few useful things you’ll get on such a group.

Haywards Chauffeurs. Always been reliable.

Mind you, we use a man with a van for M4 corridor deliveries and always thought that he seems very cheap. Wrap yourself in bubble wrap and use him?

Cheers. Not a Facebook user, avoid it like the plague, but will try Haywards.

Cheaper to hire a car one way? Once used Jupiter Cars (local) to get back to Reading.

Hire cars are silly prices atm. 6 seater plus luggage not going to be cheapest of the options as probably going to have to collect day before if it’s early.

My mate owns Euro Taxis, long established company with a large fleet of vehicles of various sizes.

HaHa. A mate used to work for them about 15 years ago! Stressful job in accounts! See their kit everywhere.

Yes, I think they get their pound of flesh. Would fit the bill for the thread though!

Every time I have gone to Heathrow for a long-haul flight I have used the National Express coaches which have been reliable, relatively cheap and have timings appropriate for most long haul flights i.e. early morning take-off and landings. Whether its cost effective for 6 is a different matter though any taxi / minibus will have to do there and back twice which will increase the cost.

6 passengers one way with luggage will be around £400-£700.

Is who Heathrow themselves recommends. It’s a brokerage site.

I bought a house from Keith who owns Euro Taxis. It was a nerve wracking experience when we dug the patio up in the garden.... A more dodgy bloke I'm yet to meet.

Back to the OP. We've used Winterbourne Taxis a couple of times and they've always been great.

I second the National Express busses.

They seem to run at regular intervals, from very early to very late, are good value if booked in advance, pick up directly from the terminal, and speed you in to Bristol city centre usually using the many bus lanes which in peak times is faster than trying to drive. Luggage space is pretty much unlimited, and it is actually quite relaxing being in one of them on the M4.

As I imagine that you don't all live together, you can then get individual taxis as required from the coach station in Bristol.

As an independent taxi/private hire i used to do similar milage with a 7 seat taxi (pre Covid) - I was much much cheaper than that. Like half that pice. £220 each way....

However Covid killed off my taxi buisness and many many others so finding a solo taxi/private hire is almost impossible. Post Covid prices must have gone up dramatically due to lack of work.

Would a 7 seater also take 6 peoples luggage? The quotes I was getting were based on 6 people and 6 22kg bags.

You'd need a longwheel base Merc for that - I had a Nissan nv200 (like lots of taxis) and the 6 bags would be an issue, prob wouldn't fit with so many large bags - depends on the size of the bags....

Used to get lots of calls about 7 people trips, I had to explain that the I'd only have room for hand luggage with 7 passengers. Still turned up to a job or two where lots of luggage was involved.....
