I know, left it a bit late as always.

There is a section "Tips and other payments not on your P60". I don't get any but if I try to enter 0 or 0.00 I get an error saying that it must be a greater value. Any ideas? Really don't want to go down the rabbit hole of calling HMRC.

Have you tried leaving it blank? Iirc it'll sometimes complain if you put zero but not if it's blank

Is there a tick box on your “tailor your return” section where you’ve stated you’ve received “tips and other payments not on your P60”?

As mentioned if it doesn't like zero (some sections require a value even if zero, some don't), leave blank unless you've said elsewhere that you do receive tips

Nick - Yes, still errors.

Mat - Not that I can see.

#edit - ran through it again and left if blank. All OK. Thanks for the help.

Late? I thought everyone did it on Jan 31st 😉

I once missed the deadline. Never again. Very expensive mistake.

If you want to have any owed tax coded out of next years tax code the deadline is the 31st December not the 31st Jan.

Doing a return after 31st Dec means you have to pay monies owed in a single lump sum.

@jonm81.  Ooo, that's interesting to know as I too believed you can only do it late on Jan 31st 🙂

So if I owe say £3k from BTL rental income, if I do my tax return this month I can pay it through my salary by having my tax code adjusted accordingly?  That'll be nice! Dan

Very good advice, but also remember they can only adjust your tax code up to a certain limit.  I think it's £3,000 owed?

Yep, it's a £3k limit I think.  I only have to do self assessments to repay child benefit so the limit doesn't affect me thankfully.
I got caught out by the different deadline a couple of years ago as it wasn't stated anywhere on the government website.  They have since started adding a statement to the self assessment but not until you get to the last couple of pages.
