You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Clever people of STW is this normal? Today I received a tax code notification including a NI number for my 11 year old son. Before I spend several hours hanging on the HMRC phone line, any thoughts?
He's never been up a chimney & doesn't have a paper round.
Is he a knight?
Does he demand a shrubbery?
If not, then no need for NI.
That's a bit suspicious
Someone using his identity?
EDIT: Unless you've set up substantial savings/investments in thier name
ID theft is a big worry.

If only I could
Our kids didn't get NI stuff until about 16 IIRC.
I don't they they have tax codes yet, either.
But presumably it went to the home address. Worth giving them a call for sure..
Most people don't get their NINO until a couple of months before their sixteenth birthday, irrespective of whether there's a paper round on millionaires' row or not.
I'd call and get it checked.
Is it an official letter, or some dodgy email / SMS?
Got mine a few months before my 16th birthday IIRC. Either something's gone awry there or they're doing it much earlier these days.
Ours came at 15 1/2 ish. Since it's not urgent, I'm told HMRC can be good (but not quick) via email.
Surprisingly got through on the phone inside 10 minutes!
Turns out it relates to a very small pension income he receives from when his mum died.
