Been toying with this for a while and I fancy something pretty simple/geometric for my wrist that represents the lakes

Anyone like to show me theirs?

commission your own? incl perhaps a bike wheel, a lake edge, a mountain and a herdwick sheep.
Those are the things that represent the lakes for me.

didn't take long....
he's only looking for inspiration, if you're against tats don't bother opening the thread in the first place. What is the point of being negative just for the sake of it?

He's a good guy and his style is fantastic. Polish and has a degree in fine art, hence the very artistic style.

errr... what's getting tattooed got to do with affirming individuality? That's a bit of a misconception I think, brought into being by daft hollywood tv programmes like miami ink etc

People get tattooed because they want to, and some people choose tattoos that have some sort of personal significance..
That's all there is to it

Do you choose to try to affirm your individuality?
If so, why?

BoardingBob - I think you've opened up some other ways of thinking about it there!

Jekkyl - thats exactly the sort of thing I was looking for:)

The GF is a pretty good artist so once I have a general idea she'll be drawing it for me

It's something I've always wanted and the Lakes are a pretty special; place for me, I always think of the camping trips my grandad took me on as a kid and all the special memories I've had with friends over the years

Not the lakes but this was the first bit of my sleeve done by Robert W Ashby at House of Thieves tattoo in brum
http://imgur.com/ohNrov2

Op, tattoo artists generally don't like being told to copy someone else's art fwiw. If you're getting your gf to draw up an idea make sure it's only rough just to give them to gist of it as it'll likely change to suit their style and work better as a tattoo.

Seen loads of little posters in shop windows recently based on old railway posters, like this. Some focus on specific hills / areas =#

Can't see the instagram ones, but what about a skyline silhouette similar to

[img] [/img]

but with the fells, or a particular view that you like. I'm sure I've seen some woodcuts of fells which would translate to a tattoo very well but I can't remember where I saw them.

Also take a look at David Cote. A Canadian guy and I just love his stuff. He toured recently and was in Edinburgh but I just couldn't think of an idea in time

And his outdoor themed stuff

Well, just back from Barcelona - got it done, still a bit bruised but you get the idea - anyone like to guess what it is? (bit of artistic license in there so not an exact representation)

My childhood weekends consisted of my dad asking us kids 'shall we go to Rampside beach or up the hoad to walk the dog?' We rarely picked the Hoad.

Why did you get it done in Spain? If I were getting something permanently etched onto my body I think I'd find someone that spoke the same language as me to do it.

Surely a map of Lancashire and Cumbria tattoed on the back would be better? You could have Blackpool at the bottom...

If I were getting something permanently etched onto my body I think I'd find someone that spoke the same language as me to do it.

And if that etching was meant to be representative of a place that was important to me, I'd be tempted to use someone that new what a Lakeland mountain looked like, or I'd probably avoid giving him a badly embroidered patch as a reference!

I'm just going to jump the gun and ask the question you'll be asking yourself in 2, 5 or 10 years time... What on earth were you thinking????

If only someone had been around to give this fella a hand and shown him the error of his ways. He'd probably have been successful if he'd known how to paint a portrait properly.

It's an interesting tatt OP and as long as you're happy with it, who give a shit what the narrow minded think.

Good point. I hadn't considered that the OP might have gone to Spain to find the next Picasso. It all makes sense now.

Nice but... seems odd to get it done that way up.
When you look at it aren't all the mountain upside down?

Was always going to be hard to get the right perspective. I have a raven inside my left forearm that is upside down to everyone apart from me.

Way I figured this one is if I'm holding mt forearm in front of me then they're the "right" way up
