If I could be convinced it wouldn't go horribly wrong, could anyone recommend an artist for the above?

I'm Northish, but y'know, it's a tattoo - I reckon I'd travel.

Feel free to take the piss, I would.
🙂

Lots of ideas ranging from less complex poster pieces to reproductions, but I'd like to get an idea of what's possible when it comes to quality.

look for previous work and recommendations.
The guy I use is freehand only, no stencils and all custom.
Means you have to come down here!

I can thoroughly recommend Gareth Unwin at Talisman in York.

Pics of mine on previous thread.

Look him up on instagram for more of his stuff.

Edit: the guy who did schrickvr6's cats on that thread looks like he might be what you're after? I love those cats.

Thanks.

I've really considered the implications, my thoughts on the process and how I've reacted to those who've got inked - a lot to consider.

My stepdaughter and her husband both have highly personal, quite large pieces - they are very different but both are personal and I've admired the way they approached it.

Much to read.

Have a look through here: http://www.inkedmag.com
Like any ink, you need to spend time being absolutely certain that the design is exactly what you want, and will be able to live with it, and you need to look at lots of photos of actual work by artists to be certain they're up to the job.
There's some truly astonishing ink out there, really gobsmacking quality, but you're unlikely to find a bloke in some tatty little backstreet shop doing mind blowing photorealistic mono portraits.
Do a Google image search as well, for mono portrait tattoos in the UK, and see where the image links take you.
I have neither the money, nor the inclination, to have a portrait tattoo, so no personal recommendation, so I can only suggest avenues of research.
Good luck, there's been quite a few threads on here showing what really poor portrait tattoos can look like!

Cheers CZ.

I've no intention of going to a tatty little backstreet place, honest.
🙂

I'd just like a artistically accurate manifestation of my acceptance of my own humanity.

Now how can that be too much to ask?

Cheers Junky.

I think I know what I want - I just need to see how much of that is possible and acheivable.

Be in in touch, thanks.

Realistic can be almost too realistic!

Sorry, that was the point I was, possibly clumsily, trying to make, that a good, photo-realistic piece of work needs a very, very good tattooist to create, it's so much more difficult to do than line work. It is a lot to ask, too much for a great many tattooists, who are really not up to the task.
Choose...wisely! 😉

Rusty, Border Rose in Littleborough is very highly regarded in this area.

Sorry, I thought that was such an obvious example of ****tery as to require no clarification.
🙂

Cheers Si.
I do like their work - but I've not seen anything that really makes me want to get permanently inked, if you get me?

I dont know anyone specifically for portrait work but just wanted to say definitely go from recommendations with portrait work as it can be so obvious if its not a great job and can really ruin a great tattoo and cause you to forever hate and hide it.
