Entering the murky world of buying a new leisure battery for the camper after ours died during a trip.

Needs to be a low profile (height below 210mm) and would ideally prefer an NCC Class A AGM or gel (purely to get round any maintenance) and (also) ideally needs to run a fridge and a few LED strips for a few days.

Are there any sparkies or more battery-savvy folk out there that have recommendations?

I simply buy the cheapest that claims to meet my needs from whichever online retailer is offering a good deal.

I bought 2 x 110aH cheap leisure batteries from batterymegastore - download app for a discount, order, delete app. They have been fine in our coachbuilt motor home. We charge on mains at home and can manage a week away off-grid no worries. Gas cooker/fridge/ hot water though, and diesel heating. All lamps led, and led tv.

All batteries will lose performance over time. You might need to spend more to run a compressor fridge.

I've used 2x 110ah lead acid in my Defender overlander and my Transit running a Waeco fridge, inverter etc. I get my batteries discarded from work as they are used in our diesel fire protection pumps and are changed every few years.

I've absolutely abused and completely flattened them and left them for months on end flat - the thing that's made the difference is a decent smart charger to restore them again.

What charging system do you have?  Some don’t like Gel/Agm batteries much.

Im also in the buy the cheapest at the spec I need camp.  A couple of Banner energy Bull’s in my case, but I have a Sterling B2B which is quite aggressive when at full stick, but I also have solar and a 3 stage hook up, so it hardly ever gets a workout these days.

I've give through a few sets of leisure batteries, they are all crap as they are not deep discharge.

I've got Trojan golf cart batteries now which can be properly discharged without damaging them, mine are quite tall and 6v so you need two, but they have various sizes so there is probably a low profile 12v.
