Got no TV signal at all due to surrounding trees.
Will freesat solve this? Or is there an equivalent out there?
Will freesat solve this?
No.

The Internet?

The Internet?
possibly.. Do you have massive trees to the southern aspect of your house? if the look angle of the satellite dish is above the tree canopy then yes, bearing in mind trees grow so what works this year may not work in the near future.
If the trees are massive, and really close to the house then no.. see Cougars internet solution
If you have a clear sight to the satellite from your dish, it will work
Trees no. freesat is going off anyway in probably 4/5 years
Internet TV as above is going to be the new normal Like it or lump it.
How do I get free view channels via the Internet?
Don't want a satellite dish.
Well, if you want freesat and don't want a satellite dish, that's like wanting to cycle to work but not wanting a bike.
What do you actually want to watch? Most of the Not Shit channels have on-demand services. iPlayer, ITV X, More 4 etc etc. You'll need some sort of smart receiver, much of which is likely built into a modern TV.
Or you could complain to whoever is responsible for maintaining the foliage. Where do you live that trees are blocking your TV aerial?
If you have a smart TV just plug an Amazon Fire Stick in and watch TV on that.
Gives iplayer and the other free apps (plus Disney etc)
Better still a Roku stick.

is this true? Sauce?
We like our freesat and most of my neighbours have a dish as the hills block freeview but not the view to the satellite. Don’t get me wrong internet tv is fine in fact I’m having full fibre installed tomorrow, just wondering where this assertion comes from
Freesat is great as long as you can find a way to point a dish at the right bit of clear sky. Don't know about future but there's a question mark about all broadcast TV, it costs lots to run but the audience for it keeps shrinking away.
Sky do a fully online live TV streaming service now (no dish), £29pm for all the free and non-premium Sky channels plus Discovery+ and Netflix. If you've got decent internet but no way to run an aerial or dish then it might be worth a try.

This upsets me. We have Freesat. It works well.
Actually, Freeview Play these days lets you stream freeview channels online without an aerial or dish. You need a TV with it built in or a separate box but no ongoing cost.
It's a Samsung smart TV, about 6 years old.
We have apps such as iPlayer, 4od etc but would really like it all in one place.
I have seen Freeview apps for Android but my TV cant find any. Maybe too old?
Happy to buy a box as long as it can receive freeview through the internet. Its a bit of a minefield out there with competitors offering different things. We just want a list of freeview channels to flick through or have on in the background.

Yes, but that requires me to buy a new TV.
The current one and Freesat Box were £100 from Gumtree a decade ago and work just fine.
I have BT internet and just looked at their TV box but it doesn't seem to have regular channels.

Me too, ours works great. Our Freesat is built into our LG TV, our old aerial was shit but we had an old sky dish that works fine.

We like our freesat
I was talking with a mate at Sky a couple of days ago, he told me that Sky's primary focus now is Sky Glass and related technologies rather than anything which requires a dish. Which kinda makes sense as affordable broadband at a decent lick is becoming a reality for more and more households. What's 4k require, something like 25Gbps? I suspect we're farther away than four years from an actual switch-off, but "mummy, what's a satellite dish?" might be something your grandkids' kids will be asking.
How any of this may affect Freesat I don't know, but I'd guess that if / when the revenue stream from Sky is severed then there will be little to prop up a free service.

You can get a Chromecast with Google TV for just £24 on Amazon at the moment - I've had one since they came out about 2 years ago and it's very good - install all your apps on it (inc Freeview) and you're away.

Does it require an aerial? And will it give me a full list of freeview channels (not just apps)?
Does it require an aerial?
No, it streams everything.

The Freeview app will give you all the listings but you'll need the app for that channel to watch (obvs).

Your about a factor of 1000 out!
I used to use Freesat and a firestick.
My new TV didn't have a sat tuner built in and I don't have an aerial.
I have FTTC broadband with a speed of about 70MPS and happily stream everything through the TV's apps. Including 4k stuff on Netflix.

Ah, shite! You know what I meant. 😁
2027 is a big year for domestic tv it's not far away tbh in planning terms. It will however depend on fibre roll out or lack of knowing this country. It's being pushed very hard on the installation side all new build homes are required to be fibre.
I honestly don't think it will be slow transition from RF to internet TV it will romp ahead.
A lot will depend on what direction Comcast push sky if they ditch the dish and offer a good product the rest will have follow including the BBC.
Sadly I can see the Beeb getting shafted
Spoke to BT this afternoon and they said their TV box will pick up freeview via their fibre optic broadband and doesn't require an aeriel. So I've ordered that. Not bad for £20 a month and includes things that we already pay for so after cancelling them, it's no extra cost.
