As far as I can tell the education act applies to kids between the age of 5 and 16. So can a 17 year old sixth form student go on a term time holiday without the parents incurring sanctions?

Black coffee and a Rich Tea for me please.

Just to save anyone repeating themselves, here some of the frothing from previous threads:

😀

Personally speaking, despite being happy to take my young kids out of school, I'd be a bit wary of taking a 17 year old out as that's fairly critical year for exams and the like.

But I wouldn't let the fines or sanctions influence me much either way.

Only got rich teas here. Poor man's biscuits but low in fat and calories. Good luck. Your kids, do what you like is always a good starter....

You are correct. You might get some stern looks from the headteacher though, so probably better to fake illness like everyone else.

Just done it. Went skiing 2weeks after half term. Eldest was about to do mock A levels. School was fine & actually said the break might be good to take his mind off them! Youngest school just said he'd have to make up for the missed work in his own time. Neither school gave the official 'authorised absence' but didn't seem to mind either.

Yes, if 17, he's basically an adult in terms of education. Might be worth him checking with his tutors that he's not going to miss anything critical, but ultimately it's his choice.

Lol. Slightly off topic, but i remember taking a couple of days off when i was 18 in sixth form, and the tutor asked me where my note from my parents was!
