You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
going for a week at easter and thinking of taking the dog, will be using the tunnel, looked on the govt website and you have to get the dog vaccinated on the way out and the way back, is this as much hassle as it sounds?
Easy in UK on french side lots of vets will do it but must be no more than 48 hrs and no less than 24 f the return journey. Rabies needed 6 months from time of inoculation but as of jan 1st will be, i think, 21 days. Needs tick and flea cert from french vet on return journey. Pretty straight forward look at defra website for all regs. Allow extra time on return for the paperwork check and don't forget you can take 9 adult for no charge but a dog is £30 each way.
cheers 100thi, not to bad then...
I heard the law is changing on Jan 1st to make it easier but I coudn't find anything on line.
Any links?
Law is changing as of the 1st Jan 2012, essentially need to have dog microchipped (if not already done) then vaccinated against Rabies, have a passport issued and then you are ready to go in 3 weeks time.
There used to be a requirement for treating against ticks and tapeworm in the 24-48 hour period before re-entry but that has been dropped from latest info on website.

Oh you need to go on certain routes too. Usually more of an issue if you are flying.
thanks bruc...
We have just got back after our 4th trip with the dog.
It's £30 on the return leg of the tunnel for the dog. £15 each way on the ferry.
Make sure the vet in France puts the right time and date on the paperwork.
They don't mind you taking your own fleastuff but make sure its Frontline or Advantix. Our Advantage was no good for ticks. Drontal for worming.

On the defra website there is no mention of seeing a vet on the way back.
Has this been dropped? I hope so
John, they are still deciding re tapeworm treatment. At the moment it looks like there will be no need to see a vet in France as long as your paperwork is correct. (after 1st Jan 2012)
However if they do decide that we need to treat against tapeworm as we do now then that may stay.
Cheers Bruk, you sound like our man in the know.
I've saved this web page, any chance if the tapeworm treatment will stay or go will you please post up back on here or drop me an email?
worth checking that you breed of dog isn't on the french ban list... friend got their dog innoculated up, & a pet passpost, then found staffies are banned in france...
Just worth mentioning
