Currently situated here for a while does anyone have any top tips for riding or alternate things to do on the odd evening , volunteering etc?
That bad?
Go north for nice (road) riding on the Berkshire downs. Tadley is a bit of a hole compared to the surrounding villages, but by most standards it's fine. The MTBing is a bit of a clay fest, so go to swinley for that.
Nice road biking, head north towards Bradfield or west towards Kingsclere or Highclere. You could maybe ask in Pedal On for advice on routes.
I used to play rugby for Tadley... You could try that.
Theres some irony as i just moved from Kingsclere to Tadley, for less of a trip to work, I may move back now and bike in.
Thanks for the tips everyone
I actually live in Tadley, on the edge of Pamber Common. Tadley has a bad rap, but I have felt more part of the community here after 4yrs, that I did in Reading or Spencers Wood after 15yrs. For riding on the road just head any direction: east for flat rides, west/north for lumpy rides. There is a good running club for all levels, volunteering for woodland trust working in the woods. Depends what you want to do...
Keep your bikes well locked up!
Some nice walking around Ashford Hill - maybe pop into the Ship Inn for a beer (assuming it's still open)
Road or off road?
I used to live in Woolhampton. Best off road options are probably to head north to the Kennet and use the towpath to head east or west pretty easily. West takes you to Greenham Common area, then out into west Berkshire. North of the Kennet takes you up towards Upper Bucklebury - heading along towards Cold Ash from there gives you various bits of singletrack.
Or, Tadley has a new skatepark - it is quite fun!
Volunteering? We used to get the "friends of AWE" magazine, which had lots of community reports in it. I'm sure that will have lots of options to give you a healthy glow 😀
Campaign for Labour?
I worked in Tadley for a few years, staying in various hotels in the area. If I wanted an off-road ride, I used to ride from Kingsclere 🙂
