Hope one of the resident IT experts can help please. I have a Huawei Mediapad 5 that needs a new battery. Seems a shame to throw it away for something so simple. Huawei have ended their support of these so they won't touch it. Any recommendations for fixits please. Ideally someone you've used and trust. Merci bien.

Leave it plugged in / use an external battery pack?

I rather suspect that you're into the realms of market stall fixers otherwise.

Id go with a local phone shop repair place that does tablets too, just check their reviews online.

Or... There might be tear down videos online on YT. If you take your time (and dependant upon how well they designed the tablet to be tore down) it can be a pretty easy fix if you are used to a bit of electronic spannering. Is there an iFixit guide online?

I thought phone shop but you really don't know what you're getting. There is a video online but I'm swithering cos the two halves are stuck together with heat melt glue. I want to give it to someone a) I can trust and b) Won't do a shittier job than me.

I've ordered the battery and 'tools' cos they're cheap. Brace for incoming Molyesque post/pics of tablet reduced to its component parts...

the two halves are stuck together with heat melt glue.

Very common on tablets and phones, just take your time and use as little heat as necessary. You might need to purchase an appropriate glue to stick it back together again. I can't remember the stuff I used when I last did a mobile. Google will tell you.

when using heat to pull it apart i tend to put my hand on it while using a hot air gun.  That makes pretty sure it never gets too hot.  If following instructions from somewhere like iFixit (who are excellent) it is worth reading all the instructions AND the comments first.  There are often gotchas that other people have found that are worth listening too.   It's perfectly doable if you take your time and are gentle but it helps a lot to have done it before as you know how hard/soft to prise things apart
