Hi Think the chip had gone in my 2008 T5 key fob. I’ve replaced the battery but still wouldn’t open or start also got the spare key & same problem, the van won’t start no electrics coming on etc.
From what I’ve searched it sounds like the chip has gone in the fob hence the van is immobilised. Questions is what chip do I need to replace it & then how do I reprogram it ?
Thnx

With my old SMax you had to reprogram the key when you changed battery. You needed a functioning spare key and involved a process that involved using the spare key and turning on and off the ignition 5 or so times in quick succession, then inserting the other key...or something along those lines. I'm sure it's in your manual or you can google it.

Seems unlikely both keys would fail simultaneously. Also I'd still expect the ignition to come on regardless of the immobiliser status as programming them will require the body computers to be energised.

You've checked the battery and fuses?

Not checked battery or fuses as the indicator light on the key fob is flashing red, hence my presumption it’s the fob also when it has been the battery the electronic fob still opens the van ?

Doubt it's the fob

Ours (07 T5) plays up similar to that all the time, but always starts. The fobs are basically dead despite batteries being fresh. And then miraculously they work again, but not all the doors lock on the central locking, and so on and so on.. There is a common issue with moisture getting in the cl unit under the driver seat - the floor slopes backwards from the footwell area so water from wet feet can work its way back apparently. Obviously a total arse that yours wont start at all though, sorry I can't advise on that

Remotes do go faulty, but immobiliser chip is a passive device - batteries not needed. You have a fault with either the key reader or the control unit. Regardless the battery light/oil light glowplug etc should light up when the key is in the start position.

everything is dead when I insert both keys no lights of any sort/glowplug etc. Neighbour is very good with vehicles & I know he’ll have everything to check the battery & start a process of elimination. FWIW & not sure what this says about the problem but the spare key isn’t electronic.

Ignition switch is usually the culprit, but if both keys don’t give you any life and the remote locking isn’t working it sounds more like a flat battery.

Open the van mechanically on the key does the central locking work?

Central locking doesn’t work.

If the central locking doesn’t work I’d say it’s definitely the battery.

Mine does exactly the same when it’s flat, if it was a key / ignition / immobiliser fault you’d have working central locking on key turn.

The only other fault I could see causing all that would be the main battery fuse or a break in the wiring from the battery but I’d say very unlikely. When did you last use it?

Last used about 3 weeks ago - could be longer lost track of time tbh. I’ve had battery problems before in the winter when its sat still for a while but it’s never effected the ability to open the van but obviously there’s a first for everything.

Yeah mine does that, battery is knackered and in the winter it won’t start after a week or so. Sometimes it’s so dead that I can’t unlock it and that’s when I know it’s totally gone, but that’s a little bit random - I can leave it weeks and it just wont start, sometimes after a week it won’t unlock and then it’s completely kaput, this is quite rare though.

I can just plug mine in though which helps, if you’ve got a second vehicle jump yours then if it starts you know it’s the battery and you can just change it.
