Looking at upgrading my rather dull unit for something more up to date and would still like to still play cds, DAB is a must with built in Sat Nav using an android phone . Do they do units with remote controls ??
Rich
Looks like it could do the job but no remote , 🙁 pretty pricy but no doubt you have to spend for the quality!

Not a T5 but I just upgraded a headunit in my Mk6 Polo and was surprised to learn they all have CAN bus now, so you have to ensure what ever headunit you get has the correct quadlock loom to ISO with an CAN bus "box" to detect the initiation signal.
I spent a surprising amount getting the correct loom for the steering wheel controls to work. So worth bearing in mind when looking at new headunits.
Don't get anything shiny - the angle they're at is a nightmare for reflections.
Speak with Pete at Skipton Car Audio (actually in Sowerby Bridge) Rich. He does loads of plug and play options for the T5.
Be sure to note the changes at facelift age (2010ish). Newer radios don't fit in older vans, as many have found to their cost.
+1 for Skipton

I bought a pioneer DA230DAB double unit. Sound quality is amazing compared to the old unit. Plug my android phone in and use Google maps etc. Even tells me live speed camera in police cars!
I also fitted a reverse camera to it.
Cable for the phone comes out in the glove box and also charges.
Brilliant bit of kit. Wait for a Halfords sale
The kenwood units that have the tilting screen are great. It's also really worth fitting a roof mount active aerial of some sort. I put an antennesystem bee-sting one on our old one and the difference in reception was well worth it - the factory mirror-mounted ones are proper crap.
Wouldn't bother with built-in GPS. Kenwood use garmin nav software, but it's heavily cut down from a proper garmin and a bit feature-free. IMO you'd be better off with carplay / android auto compatibility & running nav on your phone. Also slashes the cost. INRIX traffic subscription was pointless poo.
HD displays are worth it. mine (DNX8180DABS) was just on the cusp of having an HD display & it always looked a bit "1992 Commodore Amgia Game Box: Artist's impression of what the game might look like".
T5 / T5.1 differences go beyond the facia, so you'll need different adapters to connect to the canbus & onwards to steering wheel buttons. VCDS coding will be required. A badly installed aftermarket radio in a T5 can kill batteries, despite appearing to be "off".
Cambridge Car Audio have an excellent reputation for VW T5/T6 audio upgrades that are plug n' play or they'll fit for you.
