The szech is quite misleading and comes from very old attempts to put Chinese into a Roman alphabet. Its more like sir chew-an if you were to pronounce it as it's written in English. The problem is that mandarin has a sound that we don't, a kind of vibrating s/z sound made by pressing your tongue against your lower front two teeth as you say it. Hope that helps

Poe82 has it. Also don't forget the tones. IIRC the first syllable has the high tone and the second is the third tone which starts high drops and then goes high again.
Anglicised chinese is just, weird. Most examples don't even come close to the mark, Tsim Sha Tsui and Tsingtao are two good ones.
