You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I know there's some IT bods on here so hopefully they can help. I need to back up my android phone to my MacBook.
I'm sure once upon a time, it was just a usb cable and "drag and drop" but that doesn't seem to work anymore. Seems there has to be a 3rd party intermediary now.
However, having a healthy dose of paranoia, I can see how this would be a great opportunity to hijack an identity.
Can anyone recommend a safe program? What's syncios like for example? Fonepaw feels dodgy for example.
What on the phone do you want to backup?
Photos, contacts, app data, usual sort of stuff.
Do you sync anything to the cloud? I flashed (not in that way) my phone last night and when I booted up after installing a new OS all of my stuff just resynced (including installing all of my apps). I'm heavily invested in Google cloud stuff though. I did lose a bit of data from a couple of apps that I don't care enough about to backup.
No, I tend not to cloud.
My phone got wet today. It may or may not pull through. On the off chance it doesn't, I'd like a back up to help set up a new phone.
If you want to backup specific stuff, you could create a shared folder on the PC. Then just use a file manager on the phone, to copy files across. So no need to go via a 3rd party server. Or you could copy to a folder on Google Drive or Dropbox etc.
I recommend Ghost Commander. It is free/open source, seems to be reliable. It has plugins for SMB, Google Drive, Dropbox etc.
Just do cloud with 2 factor authentication and common sense no reason not to. All contacts are to Google address book, app data should be synced with the app provider, pics to Google photos as soon as they are taken. Swapped to a new phone in under and hour last time without any formal. Backup.
