[Closed] Swollen Lymph nodes in neck. Since november. Will I die?

I just went to the doctor with something very similar today. She said I'm gonna live.

Had this twice but by the time the ultra sound appointment came around they had gone down. Had the scan the second time anyway but everything was fine.

I've had these quite a lot over the years. Last weeks then go away, never been much of an issue yet.

Just go to the doctor. You’re not wasting their time, it’s what they’re there for.

If you're worried about it and it could be a health issue then you are not wasting the doctor's time.

As per Minky’s message. Get to the doctor. Not wanting to raise anxiety but it needs to be checked thoroughly, I too had a close-shave so definitely worth medical attention.

You sound like you need to speak with a doctor generally, not just for your throat.
It sounds like you are going through a pretty rough time lately tbh.
Speak to your doc/wife/us on here, even if all you do is vent.

A bloke I know through parkrun had a very close call through finding lumps in his neck. It caused me to check my neck last week and I found a swollen lymph node, I went to the doc last week who said I shouldn't lose sleep over it, but booked me in for a blood test just in case - I'm heading there in about 40mins.

From personal experience, get yourself to the doc. You may well need a good feel round of your other lymph nodes and a blood test. Any night sweats/weight loss?

Echoing the above- go to the docs ASAP. Probably innocuous but could be serious.

I'd get checked ASAP based on SiL experience of similar. Hoping for you that it's nothing to worry about.

I've had this off and on over the last year or so. Docs didn't think there was anything sinister but sent me for an ultrasound, and indeed all appears ok. Get it checked though - one possibility they wanted to rule out was thyroid.

Sure sign of Cat Aids (the bad type unfortunately).

Glad to hear you’re getting checked out. Just for reference I’ve never had night sweats or any of the ‘classic’ symptoms of Lymphoma but have been unlucky enough to have had it 3 times (lucky enough to still be here tho!) so deffo get yourself checked.

I had a swollen lymph node and a lot of tiredness at the end of my first year at university. I went to the doctor and it turned out to be Hodgkin's Lymphoma, so I'd side with those suggesting you go see your GP!
(I received radio and chemotherapy and have been fine for the past 25 years, by the way.)

OP: I'm a consultant Radiologist specialising in the Head and Neck at a busy referral centre in the UK so I see a lot of cases like you in my ultrasound lists.

The vast majority of people turn out to have benign reactive lymph nodes - responding to some form of infection (tonsils, ears, flu/upper respiratory, skin (beards/ingrowing hairs) are common culprits). These sort of prominent lymph nodes (medical term is lymphadenopathy) are appropriate bodily responses to infections. Also as another poster said above, by the time they get to have an ultrasound, many have resolved (and I still tell my patients that they are doing the right thing in having me scan them).

A small proportion turn out to have over causes - unusual infections, not lymph nodes but cysts or small fatty growths for example, or cancers. The latter do occur and the nature is entirely variable depending on age, medical, family and social history (for example they were more common in heavy drinkers and/or smokers and are now more associated with some type of human papilloma virus infections). Although a small proportion, these cases want catching earlier rather than later and therefore I strongly urge you to see your GP. This is, statistically, likely to be nothing but everyone has differing risk factors which cannot be assessed over the internet and so please do go see your GP. If you end up seeing one of my colleagues in the UK or even me then (even if the lump has gone by then) you are doing the right thing.

Just checking - did you manage to get to the docs OP? Hope all is well.

I have pain around the Lymph nodes, I guess that is the lymph node area, near the right bottom cornr side of the jaw for whatever reasons for nearly 3 weeks until few days ago. It all started when I felt uncomfortable inside the right bottom side of the tongue area, then I noticed pain coming from jaw area when I pressed it.

Then few days 4 days ago I just decided to massage it by enduring the pain. After two days of massage the pain has almost gone.

In that four days I have also started drinking turmeric powder mixed with honey. Not sure it that helps but the massage definitely work for me.

@chewkw For me it was several phases of surgery followed by six weeks of daily radiotherapy.
That was over five years ago now but concerns should not to be taken lightly!

I am still monitoring it even when the pain is almost gone on both inside and outside of the jaw.
It did give me serious concern for nearly a week.

They are booking approx 4 weeks fwd , with a few cancelled slots coming available on a first come, first served basis as 0800. If you ring at 0801 you will 7 or 8th in a queue , for 1 or 2 appoitnments
Lost my voice again on Tues, spent the day sucking lozenges to be able to talk
Still not back to normal today

Binned my roadbike on sat on a greasy roundabout and took a whack to the hip, so thats not allowing me proper sleep , ad wearing clothes is irritating it, but its mostly all scabbed over now

Have you explained to the doctors receptionist that you have had a lump for that long? It might get you seen sooner.

If not, if you have a regular dentist, don’t forget they should have good knowledge of the head and neck, even if it’s not tooth related.

Down here in Hampshire dentists can refer you to hospital for an urgent (within 2 weeks) appointment for an unexplained lump.

I’d hope that it’s nothing serious but having discovered my father’s lymphoma due to a lump under his tongue/in his neck, I’m a little paranoid of neck lumps...

And it’s much better to see a doctor/specialist and get a diagnosis, the local consultants are more than happy to tell me the lumps I find are nothing rather than get late referrals of bigger lumps....

Could you try 111 they may be able to get a referral sorted?

I was diagnosed with this by a school nurse when I worked at a ‘borstal’ type establishment.

Apparently it’s quite dangerous as it can close the airways to the point of suffocating,

Speak to the receptionist, tell them it is urgent and can't wait four weeks. Maybe ask for one of the GPs to ring you back.

I needed an urgent appointment at my docs recently so I was advised to go down there in person at 8 am.i did this and got one for 10.30. Is that an option open to you?

Edit: I gave my symptoms to the doctor and almost apologised for wasting his time. He told me I had absolutely done the right thing to go down there and he wished more men would do the same. So, don’t worry about thinkng you’re wasting their time.

I kept trying to feel if there is something there like a lump but there is nothing other than the pain. I will definitely get myself check soon.

Yes, I will definitely get it check.

Nearly got chocked in my sleep with mucus in the throat last night as my nose was blocked and the mucus blocked the throat ... that was scary.

I suspect it might have something to do with mucus accumulation or sinusitis, as I suffer from the latter badly for many years now. In the past I also had pain occurring along my right cheek then to the front of my right ear.

The last time I seek medication all they gave me was the nose spray but it became worst after I stopped using it.

I've had swollen lymph nodes since about October as well, there's maybe something going around? I've also had fatigue, sinus problems and recently a cough as well though, so mine is most likely related to (possibly multiple) viral infections. Been to the doc and had bloods done which showed nothing - hard to shake the feeling you're wasting their time, but better safe than sorry!

Turn up in person when they open. I've done that twice with a 100pc success rate. They always have time for urgent cases.

Having had a lymph node removed from my under arm on Friday, I'd definitely recommend going to your gp.

I went to the doc after finding a painless enlarged node under my arm which didn't go away, on top of several months of feeling very run down. Scan showed it as abnormal as apposed to a swollen lymph node. I'll find out what's going on within the next two weeks, fingers crossed nothing.

Not worth risking it so get it checked!!

Hopefully its the remains of a bug , as typically I am starting to feel much more alive and not about to die.

Follow up
GP slightly concerned by 3 months of almost non stop issues
Quick obs., 110/72 at 55 bpm sitting still so very happy there
But to be safe fasted blood test prior to hospital appt
Chest x Ray as well prior to apptment, then endoscopy at appointment, camera down nose to see what's going on in 2 weeks time as she wants me looked at sooner rather than later
