Anyone else done this...off their own back?
Not in response to call centre person saying "*pause*...*click*...hello Mr X did you realise we can save you heaps of dosh with our energy supply?" etc
There's "up to" £90 npower ATM on quidscrewyoufor£5first so I had a look at my Scottish Power account to try and compare.
It's completely impossible to do so accurately without a spreadsheet and a spare evening, given the way SP give out your account info*
It seems Thatcher is to blame*.
*as far as I can see, happy to be corrected.
I've just changed my duel fuel from British <insert rude word of choice> gas (BG)to Scottish Power as according to USwitch they'll be a lot cheaper (time will tell on that one)
It's been a royal pain in the backside. BG initially refused to let me leaving saying I had an outstanding debt. That debt was the £6 final bill they sent me, which I'd paid as soon as I received it, but in the 3 days it took to get from their end to my door, they'd rejected Scottish power request to move me. They said that the £6 was below their debt threshold, and there wasn't actually a good reason for the cancellation.
I had to start the process again, and 4 weeks later BG asked for my final meter reading (again) but I was on holiday, so they closed my account on an estimated reading, sending me a final bill that was a lot higher than it should be. Scottish Power have now taken over my billing, but they can't do anything about the initial reading as it was given to them by BG, and BG won't do anything as I'm no longer a customer.
Additionally, because of the delay, Scottish power claimed that they couldn't switch me onto the deal from the uSwitch website, but having given me the price for the unites used, it seems they are a bit cheaper than BG, so hopefully my bills will drop.
Twice.
Moved from BG / Norweb to, ah, Atlantic I think they're called this week. Just in the process of moving again, to Scottish Power.
Utterly painless and transparent both times. Both Atlantic (for the time I was with them) and Scottish Power (for their communication during the switch) were nothing but professional.
When I started the move Scottish Power I got a call from Atlantic offering me a new deal; spent half an hour on the phone with a patient and lovely bloke going through my usage, after which we both concluded that the deal I was moving to was better. Which was nice.
MoneySavingExpert, GoCompare and uSwitch are must-visit sites. Do it.
After a debacle with EON earlier this summer, I did some looking around (comparison sites an' all that) and figured I'd better learn more about watts and their usage. Realised things wouldn't really be any better elsewhere so I signed up to a 2 yr deal based on what we expect to use.
Just takes a while to work out some figures before committing.
