[Closed] Switching Energy Suppliers - Solar Panels

We are investigating moving energy suppliers to save some pennies. Currently with SSE. I can compare suppliers via Uswitch, which may not be totally accurate, it does give me an impression that changing to almost anyone will save money.

However we paid to have some solar panels installed on our roof. They work well enough that in effect we have not paid for electricity since they were installed. The panels are ours. We get 'paid' by SSE for the electricity we generate.

If we move suppliers does SSE continue to pay us - or does our new supplier have to pick up the tab? We managed to get in at the very earliest phase so we have a fantastic deal and don't want to damage that!!

Anyone have some better info - Uswitch said it would be ok, but I would like some real world examples before switching?

Just stick with SSE for your feed in tariff. we have remained with the original payer through a few energy supplier switches.

We only have a little experience with solar panels, but you can have a separate feed in supplier to energy supplier. As we bought the house and switched our main energy supplier, but then had to prove the panels were ours, so it stayed with the previous owner until we did so. Once we get the proof and changed to our name on the panels, we can change to our supplier for the feed in

Been with Scottish Power for Feed in Tariff since 2010 when we had the solar PV installed on our garage. We have changed our electricity suppliers at least twice since 2010, easy to do and painless....explain to new supplier that you will have two meters registered at your address...normal one and the generation meter.

I've changed supplier numerous times over the last 6 or 7 years and never needed to tell the new supplier about the PV.... It's not relevant.

OP how you've not paid for electricity since getting PV of beyond me unless you live outside the UK!

He did say 'paid' in inverted commas!

Similar to me, my annual elec bill is ~£350, but I get £1200+ back a year in FIT, so they 'pay' me £850+ a year to use their Elec 😉
