Looking for a means of connecting the Switch to the TV without bringing the big dock. Anyone know if any random USB-C to HDMI adaptor with pass-through will work or do I need a specific one? If memory serves Nintendo don’t make such a thing.

A quick search using Brave threw up the following AI generated answer, worth checking if the cheap £15 Ugreen docks support it:

Switch usb c to hdmi

To switch your Nintendo Switch from USB-C to HDMI, you’ll need a compatible adapter or hub. Here are some key points to consider:

Not all USB-C to HDMI adapters work with the Nintendo Switch: The Switch uses a unique protocol for transmitting video data over USB-C, which not all adapters support. Look for adapters specifically designed for the Switch or those that mention “DisplayPort Alternate Mode” support.

Powering the Switch: When using an adapter, ensure it provides sufficient power to the Switch. The Switch requires external power to operate in TV mode, so a USB-C adapter with Power Delivery (PD) 2.0 or 3.0 is recommended.

HDMI resolution and refresh rate: The Plugable HDMI Switch With USB-C supports up to 4K at 60Hz refresh rate, but this may vary depending on the adapter or hub you use.
