American friend is staying at the Marriott next week and has asked for nearby eating recommendations. My suggestions (all a bit away from the town) have fallen on deaf ears, so any thoughts from the HiveMind?
Doesn't have to be anything cheap, just good quality food and service. Chinese? Italian? British? Pretty open to suggestions.
TIA.
Helen Brownings on Wood Street for meatfest
Moshan Island Grill on Devises Road for some curried goat
Both walking distance from Marriot
Picnic in the woods?
The Swindon branch of Chennai Dosa is, or was, good a couple of years ago. Waaaay better than the shithole branch in Reading.
Does he work for IBM? My time at Nationwide was spent with a lot of IBM'rs who lived most of their lives in the Marriott.
Some favourite haunts of theirs:
Biplob, Wood Street
Old Town Thai, Wood Street
Los Gatos, Devizes Road
Pappadams, near Chennai Dosa at the bottom of the hill on Victoria Street (doesn't look much from the outside, but the Indian folks really rated it)
Fratello's used to be decent (near Pappadams/Chennai Dosa).
You can get a good curry at the biplob on Wood St 🍲 nom nom..........
Curry in the Biplob, then a few pints in the Roaring Donkey
Thanks, all. Will pass these on to her.
Los Gatos in Devizes road for damn good tapas
It's Swindon,

Massive comedy fail as none of those anywhere near Old Town/The Marriott.
It’s no coincidence that all of the decent eateries are up in Old Town, the only part of Swindon worth visiting.
