A couple of weeks ago, I started a thread on swimming and costs of using a pool to which I got a number of sinsible answers.

Well, I have gone against most of the advice and taken out a three-month membership at a local hotel pool, based on the convenience of its location, and the flexibility of its swim times.

Anyway, I went swimming last night doing 30 minutes worth of lengths, and now my body hurts. But I feel great!

This is important, because for the last three years, I have suffered a debilitating back problem, and in that time have put on three stone. Yet, when I actually do physical activity, I find I eat less. And already, in two days, I have not had the besetting cravings I normally have.

Anyway, I just had the compulsive need to share.

Excellent, whatever works for you. Stick at it.

Most hotel pools are small though, even in 30 minutes that's a lot of lengths!

swimming s great, i do 2 or 3 times/week. i went in the pool last night with the local running/tri club for the first time, dedicated technique session. found out i'm relatively fit in the water, but painfully slow in a 25m sprint (in the water start, 3 attempts, all at 19sec)... damn!

and appaerently i have loads of bad habits!!

Snap!

I joined a local Spa last November and struggled to swim (short pool 14m ish) 70 lengths in 35min. I swam 140 lengths last night in 50min and also managed 100 lengths front crawl in one hit a few days earlier.

On the plus side my lower back is much stronger for biking. The downside is my road gillet no longer fits around my arms.

Sat here with a broken ankle and my leg muscle is wasting away, I have a lower disc problem but because of the cast on my foot I'm unable to do the exercises needed to sort my issues, I think I'll be taking up swimming as soon as the cast is off.

cheers sniff, I think I got a leaflet for them when the guy put my cast on at the hospital. I've been using charity bags and sellotape when having a shower!
