I'm considering swopping from iPhone 4 to a Nokia Lumia 925 rather than upgrade to iPhone5 but is it worth the hassle?

We have a family iTunes account that snycs all the music, games, films, contacts, photos etc so i could end up paying for some apps/music twice?

I've tried it a couple of times but always came back to iOS. Breathed a big sigh of relief when I did too. My wife and kids are all on iOS devices and it just works so so much better for me. Pretty sure ill never switch again.

Apps, yes you'll have to pay for those again but why would you need to pay for music again? Music purchaed in iTunes hasn't had DRM on it for years so all you will need to do is locate the music files and transfer them onto whatever device you end up with using whatever software is required.

As for contacts and the like I'm sure there are plenty of solutions for that too that will keep things synced.

I went from an iPhone 4 to a Galaxy S3, best thing I ever did. I'm well rid of that Apple piece of shit.

I'm in the same dilemma, due an upgrade on my phone from an iPhone 4 S to... I don't fancy the iPhone 5, so I could go for the new Sony Xperia Z1 of the Nokia 925...

Will I miss my iPhone? I guess I will but that's just a change I'll get used to, the Sony looks good as does the Nokia... decisions, decisions..

Same here, orange contract ends tomorrow on iPhone 4. I love how easy it is to use so thinking of just sticking with it & getting the 5

Do you really need to upgrade?
Dump the contract get a giffgaff sim and keep the iphone 4 & the money you'd have wasted...

Personally both of us tried an android phone when our 3's were expiring, and hated them. I bought 2nd hand 4, her indoors a new 4s as she uses it for her work, & we are really happy with them, everyones different though.

Whatever you all do, wait a week till the new iPhones are out as that will effect pricing.

I honestly wouldn't do that. Just negotiate your sim-only price.
You'll get it down to £13 most likely (i pay £7.90 but that's with only 150mins).
I had to request my pak code for them to ring and offer me that price.

The iPhone 6 cannot be that far away now, is it worth waiting to see what that will be like?

I went from a iPhone to a Nokia and then back again to a iPhone 4s

I am old and changes are hard at my age 😉

There's an Apple announcement on Tuesday. Expect an iPhone 5s and an iPhone 5C, cheaper plastic iPhone.

I hadn't really considered doing that, it's just what I've always done, upgraded every 12,18 or now 24 months.
There's nothing wrong with my iPhone 4, it was replaced by ins about 6 months ago after drowning

Thought about that too as my 4s contract is up in 2 months time. I've already had offers from the phone company and Orange and am waiting for them to get even better otherwise it will be giffgaff at £12 a month instead of current £37.......

......... until iPhone6 comes out and offers something appreciably better that is!

I get the feeling that the iPhone evolution seems to have slowed right down, nothing very innovative has happened for quite a while (with smart phones in general).

This for me too. I reckon you don't get any appreciable difference unless you go two or three jumps in terms of model. I stayed with my 4 - still works fine - pay bugger all for lots of mins, texts and data and will wait and see what the 5-whatever does.

Hopefully, it'll run Flash.

Swapped to a Nokia 820 Windows Phone 12 months ago (after 4 years of iPhonings) & never looked back 🙂
Nice & easy transition and all the apps I need (which to be fair isn't many) are available or a similar alternative is

Thinking of ditching my contract as well. Don't really make many calls and as I have magic numbers on Orange, most my family and friends are so calls are free and don't text much either as I use whatsapp loads. The iPhone 4S is a pretty good phone with all the features I need, plus I luckily had a new replacement within the last 4 months and so my contract ends next month so I've got a virtually new phone as it is. Mmmm must mull it over.

Thanks for the input guys (and girls?). Having spent the weekend looking at apps to convert contacts etc I've come to the conclusion that I'm sticking with IOS and going for an iPhone5. Wife is getting my nearly new '4S' and changing her contract to SIM only which will save us some ££s. My company pay my contract and any upgrade fee 🙂

If they are paying then wouldn't you be better waiting till the 5S comes out in the next week or two?

I went back to IOS after a couple of years with a Galaxy S2. Got an iphone 5 as the prices were already dropping with the imminent arrival of the 5 S/C. It is a great device and I am sure the prices will drop further once the new devices are released.

@MadCowKev - I'd suggest you wait a second, there is an Apple press conference tomorrow - there could be a 5S/6. FYI I've been on a 4S for a while (2yrs-ish) and it's been great, when I get to switch I'll go 5 or 5S depending upon pricing.

I've just done this. Went from an iPhone 4 to an HTC One.
Music transfer took me about 10 seconds to kick off, I lost quite a few paid for apps but nothing major. Contacts, calendar, notes, etc all dead easy to transfer. Took me about an hour to complete, plenty of help on the internet.

I think the main issue I have is that I've lost my humorous ring tones and I'm stuck in a quandry how to get them back.
