As I sit here with Covid feeling perfectly well, but unable to put the bins out without having to have a nap afterwards I find myself drawn to internet shopping. Can't afford another bike and no space for another RC tank so I'm defaulting to my third choice... Watches.

I'm liking the look of a Suunto Core. Nowt fancy, just a chunky but not overstated digital watch. Got several G Shocks and haven't seen any more that jump out at me.

Anyone got one? Are they any good? Are there similar alternatives? Is it so big that it looks daft?

I had a Core several years ago, they are nice looking watches and the size is chunky but not insane on a normal sized wrist (I'm a keyboard warrior so don't have massive forearms).

The straps however are made of cheese, packet cheese, and I went through 2 very quickly. I'm not delecate with things, but comparatively the Garmin forerunner I have has lasted far better. It also tells me stuff like steps, records runs and rides and while not as pretty as the suunto was it seems like a more useful thing overall.

If you are just buying for looks though, then a Suunto makes sense.

I got two different Core models, all black standard plastic case and a steel cased version.
I like both and unlike above have found the rubber strap to be reliable and lasting well.

I bought a suunto Armbit 3 as well and it was the worst watch I've ever owned. It looked fine but the display looked crap and It took hours and hours to upload as the Bluetooth rarely worked.
Shame as It seemed a bargain on sportspursuit.

As a good non-smart outdoor watch, I really liked mine. Easy to read and use and as robust as I needed.

The compass feature helped out on a couple of cloudy days where I could not see the sun and the barometer function was also very useful for weather indications. The altimeter was more of a novelty feature for me - used really just for curiousity when out in the hills.

I only stopped using mine when I got my Garmin Fenix 6X where the health features are a lot of use to me now.
