Thinking of booking a week in Sept for myself and OH.
Seen a few online, anyone got a recommendation? I know I could try a surf forum but never had a bum steer from the STW hive mind.
Went to one in Asturias a few years ago which was pretty good (I think). I'll try to remember the name - might have been Rodiles
I went to Biarritz with this lot

thought it was well run/organised - suggest you check on tuition options though as most people just went and surfed
There's a surf school near Comillas in Cantabria,but can't remember the name,about 50 miles of Santander.This one IIRC http://en.oyambresurf.com/
I've seen a surf school operating out of San Vincente de la Barquera. Can't vouch for the quality of the teaching. Big advanrage of surfing there is that there are two beaches one faces north west just east of town and so picks up any and all the swell and round the point further East, one facing north east and is more sheltered if the swell gets big (and it does). Actually the point cleans up the swell really nicely as it wraps round. Look on google maps.
Couple of reasonable campsites on the Eastern beach - plaja Oyambra I think. We stayed there a few times out of season, huge storm once with torrential rain and mega high winds, say a car being blown across the site - no BS. But that's the Bay of Biscay for you.
The town isn't really a holiday resort, but is a working fishing port, so lots of fresh fish restaurants.
This is all 5 years out of date so may have changed...
There's one operating out of Zumaia, lovely area too. Zarautz just down the road also has one. They're about 30min from San Sebastian, 2hrs from Bilbao.
No personal experience of either, though, although I was watching the Zumaia group and they seemed pretty well organised, kit in good condition etc.
If you want something more lively San Sebastian rocks and you can surf the town beach, albeit it's pretty competitive from memory. I imagine there is a surf school.
For something different and urban, Gijon, west of San Vincente, has a good big beach, and I'm sure a surf school as it's a big town with a good surf community. Everyone gets legless on cider in the old town on sunday afternoon too. Has a good curry restaurant and an English bookshop and some really good bars from memory. Good campsite on the point overlooking the city and bay too.
I really like northern Spain, so I am biased.
... I want to go back now. Looking up boat times, thinking of reasons to tap of work for a month...
