as per title, really... potentially looking to do a surf camp late this month, very much a beginner (can barely swim haha), so somewhere mellow and nice... figured morocco or portugal was where to aim - i don't want to be chilly in or out of the water.
any tips? I'm always a bit sceptical of anywhere at the top of a google search for some reason.
7island surf in Fuerteventura was great for me about 15 years ago. I just looked them up, they are still going angle getting good reviews. Â Tom is a really nice guy

Moroccan Surf Adventures, I've been 3 times to these guys. All you need to do is get to Agadir airport and they do the rest. The food is top notch too.
i've not been to either, but portugal sea temps are colder than you'd expect, and i've heard many reports the water quality in morocco is pretty bad at time. much like cornwall..
As above it is worth remembering the majority of the Portuguese 'sea' is infact the full freezing might of the Atlantic Ocean!
it's more that due to the orientation of the coast, and the previaling winds, its prone to upwelling events where the surface water is pushed offshore and replaced with colder water from depth.
It's been about 11 years since I went to Morocco but I went with both Moroccan Surf Adventures and Surf Maroc - a couple of times each. Looking at both their website, things have moved on radically!
Moroccan Surf was very basic, first year was much better then the two blokes running it went their separate ways. Second year was pretty poor. Dirty sheets on the beds, Denny (running it) was a bit of an arse - think he was up against it as new operations opening up, food was basic to say the least. Not geared up to beginners either - one van and you surfed where the van went. Had some great waves though.
Went a couple of years later with Surf Maroc and much more professional - several vans, selection of surf spots, much more geared up to beginners.
As I say, things look very different these days so all that info is probably well out of date.
