The three football teams I follow (City I was born in, town I grew up in and town I now live) all got relegated this season!

Looking forward to World Cup...

Imagine winning all the time, how dull would that be.  (Long term West Ham sufferer)

my team are in their playoff final this year. It's all sunshine and roses.

I wouldn't know what it's like to watch us lose a non-league fixture against Leyton Orient in a half-empty Tuesday night match. Oh no.

I know at least one of the teams of which you speak, pigface, and can sympathise, although I have tried to teach my kids that loyalty is a virtue.

In any case, the Winnipeg Jets were near the bottom last year, and look where they got this year!

Dragons season ticket holder for the last 10 years - every year I say I'm not going to get one next season, but every season I do buy one in the vain hope that my loyalty will eventually be rewarded.

Worcester Warriors and Hockey Club Morzine Avoriaz Les Gets (HCMAG, Les Pingouins)

Warriors regularly bouncing along the bottom of the league or going down.

Les Pingouins ejected from the whole league (admin stuff) and having to start at the beginning in the third division! Ouch. At least they're winning matches snow. 10-0!

Aah, the neuveau riche of rugby supporters. You must be young as they haven't been winning for that long.

As a 42 year old tigers fan I can say that it's not dull at all when you win all the time. Unfortunatley nowadays I also know how it feels when you don't.....

🙁

Same here. Still can't decide which was the biggest disappointment ever (there have been so many) but dropping to the third tier in 2007 or the 1987 season (losing the play-off final and FA Cup semi finals in two very close matches) were particular 'high' points.

And despite losing the Big Cup semi final with O'Leary's 'babes' was a huge disappointment, at least we were a great team (albeit briefly).

We were relegated from the Championship last season with the lowest points total on record in the Championship.

We are in the league one play off final on Sunday after a great turnaround by the manager.

If we get promoted I imagine next season will be a massive struggle.

Citeh were seconds away from administration, losing the div 2 play off final to Gillingham in 1999, when Paul Dickov scored in the fifth minute of injury time. Fair to say that was a fork in the road! So you never know what might happen, which is I guess the essence of what keeps us all going.

Alternatively,

The worst is when your team no longer exist. Wimbledon for example and to a lesser extent Cardiff and Hull.

i'm a Bournemouth fan, we nearly ceased to exist twice. now look at us.!

I was on the other side, and look at the season we've just had........

But admit it, this thread was really about England cricket again, wasn't it

After almost 3 weeks of - let's be honest, bloody good weather - first day of the season and already we're hoping it rains.

I don't really bother any more but when I used to go to the footy, my team's most memorable (and weirdly enjoyable) season involved losing TWO cup finals and being relegated in the league

After just moaning about being a Leeds fan, it appears we have just had investment from the owner of SanFransisco 49ers and he has grand plans to make us great again.

As long as he understands being in the First Division next year wouldn't be a good thing.

I followed Man City when they were utterly shit. Almost feels weirder to see what they're doing now. I remember going to Wycombe to see them get beat 1-0 . They were so awful.

Bolton Wanderers sufferer.  Since I started watching them in early 90's they've been on the ascendancy, eventually watching them play in europe.  Some of the players I've seen pull on a white shirt still amazes me.  Okocha, Anelka, Djorkaeff, Campo, Hierro, etc

The last few years have been utterly painful to watch but hopefully we're on the up again

The way I see it, you have to endure the lows to appreciate the highs or so I keep telling myself.

+1, but how brilliant has been surpassing all expectations two seasons in a row, only fans of lesser teams experience that.

I am friends with the son of one of the Leeds greats from the Revie era - I can't begin to explain how much it pains him knowing that 🙂

Yup, had it with Argyle's sky dive from the championship all the way to the bottom of league 2 along with major financial issues, but it's been great seeing things turn around the last few seasons!

While a different level of 'really bad' to most teams, it's always been a rollercoaster following liverpool (dad's side of family from there). Winning the champions league in 2005 then having to have a new rule put in to allow them to defend their title because they didn't qualify in the prem that season could only happen to them.

As John Cleese so eloquently point it, it's the hope that kills you.

(fellow sufferer).

I decided I was a a Middlesburgh fan in the 90s, because they had that magnificent team- Ravanelli, Juninho, Gianluca Festa, Branco and so on- and couldn't win a damn thing. Drawing against Chesterfield was a glorious day only rivalled by relegation.

Whoever wins that one will probably struggle somewhat in the Championship - we started this season as relegation contenders! Good luck (hope you lose though 😉 )
