Need some new shades, and I am getting bored of all the usual guff, is there anything or anyone out there doing something a bit different but still classy?

What's the heritage of your bike/car/speedboat/hovercraft?

Picked up some Vuarnets when in France recently. Lenses are excellent and, well, yeah, they're a bit different from the usual herd sunnies in the UK.

Vuarnet are a rather good suggestion there. Mrs CFH has a pair and the lenses are indeed excellent.

Always liked Arnet, they went a bit mainstream when they were sold and the name changed to Arnette, but they still do some interesting styles. Woodies are quite nice, but you're pretty much stuck with a Wayfarer/Frogskin stylee.
There's these: https://www.warbyparker.com/sunglasses/men/curtis/moss

These are a bit different, and cheapish: http://www.julbousa.com/mountain/

Oooh...one of my favourite pairs ever were a pair of Arnettes - one of the few pairs I really was sorry to lose. Are they still around?

Arnette are, they still do a couple of the original styles, like the wraparound Ravens. Which ones did you have?
I've got a couple of pairs of Ravens, one pair I had Rx lenses in, and I've recently got some new lenses for those from Australia, I've got a pair of Steel Ravens, a couple of pairs of Black Dogs, a pair of Hornets, and a pair of Dusters.
Hornets are lovely, Italian made, proper metal frames with glass lenses, they never caught on and I can't find a single reference to them anywhere! I got mine from a bike shop in Vail, they were just about to send them back due to lack of interest. I love them, and treasure them, they're irreplaceable.
Just had a look at the Arnette site, and they've actually got some nice styles, the OP might like some of theirs, they're not too well known these days; the Beasty Boys made the Ravens famous back in the 90's.

I have some lovely titanium Lindbergs with the most amazing Zeiss lenses.

Make Oakleys look cheap.

I got some Persol ones recently. Really, really well made and they were good enough for Steve McQueen...
