What are people using ?.
Finally got around to getting some prescription sunglasses, roll on summer. But while they are fine walking about, it can be a bit bumpy on the bike and a retainer strap is going to be needed.
Used to get such things free on magazines but you dont these days, so what are people using that holds them tight to your head. Needs to be tight on the legs as they're kind of thin.

This was the type i use to use sailing, but after a bit the elasticated tubes stretched.

Anything other ?

Possibly, but at that price, does it matter? A pint of beer costs twice that!

I’m sure a search of eBay will turn up similar things made of Neoprene for even less, buy half a dozen just in case. I think I’ve got several upstairs in a drawer somewhere that I bought many moons ago, I’m sure they still work ok - I haven’t used such things for years.

Yeah, here you go, five for slightly less than a fiver!

Did you buy from an optician or online? I'd bet they need to be "fitted" properly. No head is perfectly sized.

For the above reason look for the type with drawstring fastener at the back. Easy to put on and secure.

Funnily enough, I cam across one of those neoprene retainers yesterday in a box - an original Piranha Zipper - that I used to use to keep the JT Threads in place! Yours if you want it?

They’re neoprene, and quite stretchy - I’m pretty sure I used them on sunnies like Frogskins, which were among my earliest sports-type sunnies, along with Oakley Blades and RazorBlades. The whole point of them is to stop them falling on the floor if they get dislodged, or if you just need to take them off indoors and have nowhere handy to put them down - they’re not a strap to hold them on your head like ski goggles. There are some with a toggle-type arrangement that would allow them to be pulled tight, and it wouldn’t be difficult to get some drawstring toggles and fit one if that’s what helps.

Thanks for the replies, ill see what i can come up with from there.

Thanks for the offer, but you're ok. And you know that in a few months you'll be scrabbling around cos you suddenly need them yourself

@Countzero.

I dont buy from China. Not because of this or that or t'other but i prefer to get in the uk just because it doesnt involve a 3 week wait.

That type is the type i had before, and is probably the best, i want them to remain tight, and the elastic nature of neoprene can pull on the ends so they might loosen off. I used them before sailing so there wasnt a bumpy nature and it was more to stop from losing them over the side.

I think the same would probably do, it just depends on how grippy they are on the arms.

But as you say cheap as chips and probably best to get a set and if unsuitable get or try something else.

Been a  while since ive use these things, so memory of how well they worked is probably lacking. Buy and try. I'll pop into ebay the now and pick up a set.

They used to be called croakies and I bought some way back in 1993 in a chandlers in Annapolis.
They cost more than the sunglasses I bought them for and still have them and use them. The sun glasses departed when I chucked an ice axe in my rucksack. Oops.
Anyway if you google croakies a whole new world will open up to you.

Croakies 😀 yes thats them, i'd completely forgotten the name. And in fact googled and there they are.

I'm sure my original pair i got on the front of mbuk or something. I see now theyre asking near a tenner. Dont think ill be stretching to those heady heights of luxury though.

I think that I bought a neoprene retainer in the discount Mountain Warehouse shop.

In most high streets near you.
