Recommendations for some bike sunnies which will be used daily for about 6 months. Like the look of Jawbones but not at that price, how much cheaper in Duty free or the States?

For me, that makes it worth getting something decent - my Oakley M-frames are 10 years old now and still going strong so actually work out as decent value and perform well (I wear glasses for all riding due to contact lenses)

Cheap(er) Oakleys here: http://www.polimil.co.uk/acatalog/Oakley_S_I_Eyewear___Accessories.html

my local Blacks seem to be doing a buy 1 get 1 half price on their Oakleys at the moment - there were Livestrong Jawbones in the cabinet too

Smiths are pretty good, with interchangeable lenses. Dragon and Arnette are also worth looking at. Why the time scale? Any quality sunnies will be good for years, and with interchangable lenses damaged ones can be easily replaced.
I've not worn Smith, but I know people who have, but I've got Oakley, Arnet and Dragon, many of which are fifteen to twenty years old, like my two pairs of Frogskins.

Bloc Shifters. four sets of lenses. Ideal for all conditions I've had a set for a good few years now. Still going strong with pretty much daily use

I've been delighted with my Flak Jacket XLJs, just ordered my 3rd set of lenses for the winter months. They have been faultless.

...as a result of some confusion between the SO and myself, I've got some brand new Oakleys if you're interested?
1 pair each of:
Scalpels (polished black frame, polarised grey lens)
Radar Pitch (matt black frame, grey lens)

and for the more attractive gender...

Enduring Edge (metallic black frame with black Iridium lens)

Personally I've got a beaten up pair of half jackets and a pair of flak jackets 'for best'. Both a sort of gold-y colour frame with gold iridium lenses

Are you likely to lose them or drop them at any point? I can see the appeal of expensive shades but I'm a big fan of Bolle's range of safety glasses- they work very well on the bike, they look good, and they're available in a range of tints. The only real downside I've found of the BL10s I use is that the lenses scratch a little easily, but of course the huge plus side is that you can buy about 30 pairs for the cost of a set of Oakleys. I lost another set when I was in france, with an expensive set I'd have been walking back up the trail for half an hour looking for them...

It's like buying a Zippo lighter (I used to be a smoker) - if you spend a bit of cash, you don't leave your lighter on a pub table.

I take extra special care of my Oakleys - lost one set and the dog chewed another. The pair I have now (polarised lenses) have lasted two years so far...

Sorry - no idea what model they are - they were 'new-old-stock' from a well established ebay seller, i.e., they'd been sitting on a shelf for 20 years, untouched. Got a pair for the better half from the same seller - they were Hatchets - very pretty but quite wee.

does a load of cheap Oakley stuff - got my first two pairs from them.

I lost some flak jackets the other week. Gutted! I had only had them a year.

My mate pointed me to Shadestation for replacements. I'm very tempted to buy some new ones.....

Jawbones are big and heavy, and I'd never use them off-bike because to be honest you look ridiculous.

Half-jackets are usable on and off for me, but I have transition lenses which don't darken in the car. So I have yet another pair 😳 for driving in and off-bike use - Squares.

You also don't attach them to your face then hurtle down a mountain

My Oakley M frames are a bit like Triggers brush:

Second frame, second persimmon lens. Only original is the dark lens, but to me they're still the glasses I bought in Florida in 1999.

The Oakley shop in places like Cheshire Oaks often have reasonable discounts on previous years lines, if you can get to such a discount outlet then you may get lucky.

I use these

http://www.powerkiteshop.com/dirty-dog-dirtydog-buzzer-glasses.htm

Really comfortable, still look like new after 5 years and about a third of the price of my Oakleys (That now only get used in the car).

Big range here

Maui Jims for me. The best lenses I have ever tried.
