We make our own soap and just a query for the STW folk

Quantocks soap

We have been looking into making a soap that ticks and midges do not like!! made with Eucalyptus and citroenella essential oils

Do you recon it will work????

Eucalyptus and citronella? Not a chance. Try getting some Bog Myrtle in there.

Well it might work in that it has a nice marketing ring to it, even if it doesn't keep the midges away! My Neal's Yard anti insect Citronella spray also has lavender and witch hazel in it FYI.

+1 for bog myrtle (at least against the midges)

DEET is the only effective midge repellent.

Just done a batch of liquid soap using Lavender, Citroenella and Eucalyptus (apparantly it is a combination that works and we had the essentiol oils in stock)anyone need 24 bottles of the stuff 😉

Alas we have no Deet to use let alone Bog Mirtle but we may well get some and give it a try at a later date

Also I am afraid to say Deet does not exist on our Chemical Registration so it is a no no 🙄

SD - can't say if the Neal's Yard stuff worked completely I'm afraid, I still got bitten, but maybe less. Your soap is great, I'm sure I'd give the anti midge stuff a go if I saw it on sale.

PS how's the website going?! I'm just doing a new one using Mr Site whose website of the month is Your competition!

Avon, Skin-so-Soft is a fab midge repellent. Sold up in Scotland in lots of shops for that purpose, smells disgusting so I reckon essential oils would be much more pleasant.
