Just been watching this - an unbelievable video from 1964 of two men sailing in a Wayfarer dingy from Scotland to Norway.

Looks like no fun!

And here's some background from the Guardian: http://gu.com/p/3q8f4

Think I'll stick to bothying.

Is that the same people who sailed onto Iceland or was that a different couple?

Frank Dye (the narrator in the video) sailed to Iceland with Russell Brockbank, while he went to Norway with Bill Brockbank (no relation to Russell).

I like that he didn't want anyone risking their life to attempt a rescue and therefore took a radio that could only receive.

This should be linked to the "So you think you're hard?" thread. 😯

They would have got on well with Ranulph Fiennes.

Funnily enough, two chaps from the sailing club to which I belong are currently having a go at the "round Britain in an open boat" record, sailing a Wayfarer dinghy similar to the one used by the Dyes. They set off on 31st May from Weymouth, sailing clockwise, and as of yesterday were already at Berwick-on-Tweed.

Have a look at their webpage:
