Summer holiday planning for me and son. Previous years have done 2 weeks in Bourg st Maurice. This time is just one week and just me and him. Don't fancy the epic drive to BsM solo for just a week so was hoping someone might know of a closer resort? I guess Morzine is the obvious, but is there anything closer than that?
Doesn't have to be full double hard blacks. Just a nice place to spend a week.

Mind you, I would reckon they are more like BPW and only enough there for a day or 2. But maybe you could do a tour of all the smaller lift accessed resorts along the Rhine valley
Ferme libert is only an hour and a bit off the ferry, the nearest one I know of. We've done a day there on the way to winterberg then back to the UK in a weekend before. It's the setting of the fest jumps, but there's fun stuff in the woods. Button lift takes some getting used to
Willingen is only half an hour from Winterberg as well, a few hours beyond that you'll find Bad Salzdetfurth, Hahnenklee and I'm sure there is plenty more in between. Never been to any BTW, I just pick up places from folk I follow on Insta so it's best to do your research first. Pinkbike might be a good place to look too.
Germany is lovely in summer though so you wouldn't be short on other interesting stuff to do, the Technic Museums at Speyer and Sinsheim are two days on their own! There may well be more bike parks down that end towards Baden-Baden and Saarburg. If you end up somewhere with a Sommerrodelbahn (summer toboggan) they are as fun as they look.

Try La Bresse and Lac Blanc as they're in the same area. There's not loads there but visitng both of them could fill a week easily. About 6 hours from Calais from memory. We've stopped there a couple of times on the way home to break up the drive.
