Anybody had enough of it now?Heat, struggle sleeping, living in just shorts and avoiding hot food.Or am I just a miserable get?
It's fine by me but I am hoping for a cool, dry Autumn.
So long as it remains dry - got a two week UK camping/travelling holiday coming up end of next week, and don't fancy putting a damp tent in the van when moving between camping locations.
^ Fair enough. It just seems to me we've had summer since about April. The attractions of noise and heat are starting to wear a bit thin with me
Nope, long may it continue!
I'm not enjoying heatwave days like today's max 29C, or that it's still 27C now at 1900. Earlier heatwaves this year were worse, lasting 3+ days at a time and making sleep practically impossible even with window open and two fans running.
But I hate how sunset in Southampton is 2028 tonight and it will be pretty dark around 2105... And this will continue to keep getting earlier until around 20th December, eventually making after dinner outdoors in daylight impossible.
What fathomer said!
Makes me a sweaty heap, but i love it. Bought one of those little fans that Amazon do, runs all day off a usb charger thing. Perfect for working from home. Lovely.
True about the dark mind.I guess four heatwaves in NE England is not something we are used to.I,m going to have to adjust to it.
living in just shorts
I live in shorts pretty much right through the year, unless we get a really cold spell in the winter! And I mean sub-zero.
DB,how do you manage to think in this heat.I feel half asleep most of the time.
Don't you miss wearing some proper clobber count zero?
It's been grim commuting home in it on the bike - just had to knock the speed off and dial it down. I'm not great with mid 20's onwards and cycling. A mate of mine really suffers in the heat. 20c, yeh lovely.
I’m not having any problems with sleeping, my house faces north-south, my bedroom has windows on both sides, so convection means I get quite strong, cool breezes blowing through so it’s really comfortable.
That does, however, mean that there’s a lot of traffic noise and the starlings early in the morning, so earplugs are crucial!
Yup earplugs and eye mask here.Windiws shut as well to keep out the noise! As above,20C perfect.
I found another benefit to ebikes in these heatwaves which makes perfect sense, you can go out and let the ebike motor do an awful lot of the work to move you under 15.5mph, so you as the rider get less sweaty.
Our lounge gets hotter than outdoors in these heatwaves, for example 28.2C now and 26C outside, which means getting out will be more refreshing... But it's so easy to forget that!

It's been brilliant for my commutes. I've got a couple of gravel options so they've been amazing. The e-bike takes a lot of the effort out of it so I don't end up a complete sweaty mess.
I'm loving it, to me it just seems to make everything so much nicer?
Having tea in the garden, dry bike rides with minimal cleaning, sat outside for coffees and beers and so forth.
I go track running on Wednesday nights and never realised how many other clubs there are in the same park until this summer-the local boxing club, a HIIT club of some sort, the local cub scouts all out in the park exercising outside- they are all right next door to the track but I had no idea they were even there before as everyone is just shut away in their own little huts in the winter.
Also the fact that I can just put on a pair of shorts and t-shirt to leave the house without any thinking about it.
Good points Duggan.I guess it's just the kind of area you live in that counts
I'm loving it tbh, we'll be missing it come December when it's cold, dark we're caked in slop.

But do we really have winters anymore in the North Pete?
I must admit that by this time in August, every year without fail, I start to feel a bit down as I can already begin to feel the dark shadow of autumn and winter just over the horizon.
For me autumn and winter as just a time to be survived until Spring is here again.
I would have done a lot less riding if I didn’t have an e-bike.
See,I don't feel that way at all.
Could be worse, looking at some of the temps they are getting in France and Spain, we have got it easy.
True enough.
In the woods in the highest temps it's never felt that hot to me. Biking, you get a breeze.
My only problem with it is the infiltration of naturists in our area. They really have zapped the magic from being alone in the forest.
I used to hate summer but now I get up early and make it work.
Come winter and the constant cleaning this will seem months away.
I think we hit the super high temps in 2023/22 and I was away in the states and it was boiling so this doesn't seem so bad.
Many Brits complaining that I know are simply just not making changes in their lives to deal with it.
Only downside I've found is my dog just can't walk very well and really struggles despite early walks.
Here in Yorkshire I can remember no better year, by some margin, for biking and other outdoor activities! It's been incredible.
A few more showers would be nice to keep the dust down but I'm not going to complain!
I don't feel sad about getting towards autumn/darker now as it's been so great. Also I really like autumn nowadays. Hoping for some dry, cool crisp and sunny days with amazing colours
Sorry but this can stay as long as it likes - I love it!
I am extremely lucky though in that I get to spend a lot of time by the sea and have access to a boat etc.
I have always lived my life summer to summer, utterly hate the winters now and am thinking of the most affordable way to make them go away - they're such a waste of time.
I'm hoping for a dryish September and October, then if it could just really piss it down for November to replenish reservoirs that'd be great 👍
Chimney sweep and boiler service were booked weeks ago.
And now I’m looking at my stack of pallets thinking I must get round to chopping them up - seems wrong to be doing that in 30 degree heat though!
To be fair Derbyshire has had some decent rain in recent weeks.
Yeah hating it and really looking forward to 6 months of cold and rain....
😒
This weather is GREAT! just wish I didn't have to work in it. I love autumn, the crisp mornings, the colours... but winter is hell. Struggling more and more with it as I age. Would gladly join the swifts and swallows and fly south for the winter. Maybe not to the Sahara, mind.
I like the weather. Don’t like being in work though with holiday booked in September knowing that by then the weather will have changed.
I generally like hot summers but the low flows in the rivers are concerning and where I live the traffic is bloody awful at the moment because people go bonkers in nice weather and drive around all the time.

I'm finding it to be too warm for running. At least when (road/gravel) cycling there's the opportunity to develop ones own wind-chill. I was out for a run in the dark earlier in the week, in preparation for an event, and it was lovely. I'd forgotten how nice night running is and am really looking forward to it.
Camping is also an issue when it's too warm overnight. Bivvy bag can help other than the heat tends to increase the insect count too.
Are we not forgetting all the good things about Autumn and Winter.
Get to wear your fancy clobber
Toffee apples and roast chestnuts
Much nicer visiting the shops
Alot less zombies and scumbags about
Quieter and cooler in the Cinemas and Museums
Cold crisp walks along the beach and not pouring with sweat all day
Close your windows at night and it's quieter/cooler for sleep
Far less nettles and flying beasties
Best six months for the stock market
Much nicer watching TV in the dark and cool
Sitting in the pub without feeling the need to do something more constructive.
No hey fever
Stews!
Possibility of a bit of fat biking on the snow
Observing scotroutes Ice maidens during the 100 day challenge
etc etc etc.
Not having to see your more fat, pale, tattoed and in your face neighbours,as they tend to cabin up for 6 months.Preparing for next spring when they will go crazy on the first nice day and injure themselves!
Don't have to here about the boring Cricket and be subjected to the summer athletics on TV.
Brats back at school and College ready to assault their teachers and leave the rest of us alone.
So called students all back to their institutions.
Are we not forgetting all the good things about Autumn and Winter.
Not at all, but theres plenty of time for all that. In the meantime, just enjoy the sunshine. God knows we get little enough of it over an average 12 months.
I expect that in a couple of hours the siren call of the pub beer garden will echo around the valley. Cheers! 🙂
I find the humidity murder on the old Asthma.
Thank god for Ebikes or I'd never get out anywhere.
Funnily enough my mild asthma is fine in the summer and not the best in Autumn.
Im happier when it's cooler for sure, but that doesn't make it cooler. It just means summer has to be the "off season" for hard exercise.
Do seem to genuinely struggle with heat and get nauseous quicker than I'm comfortable with when exercising. Doesn't help my nearest decent sized hills get bugged out with swarms of flies.
I do bloody love being out in the hills over winter, so it balances out against those that hate the wet and cold I guess.
I like hot weather and cold frosty or snowy weather. I don’t really enjoy endless bland drizzle. Pity really, living in SW Wales. I always feel envious of people living where you get proper summers and proper winters. I suspect the reality is different and that perfect seasonal climate is a rare thing.
40 odd degrees down the hill and sweaty warm in the mountains. A few days of Summer were always on the unpleasant side of hot in these parts but now it's a few weeks. I spent thursday painting some of the tarmac drive white so it doesn't get so hot.
Yeh,packed slow train from Redcar was another unpleasantness. Why we can't paint the tracks white I don't know.
Yeh,packed slow train from Redcar was another unpleasantness.
Look on the bright side - you were leaving Redcar
Fortunately I,d been sea swimming in Marske.Even I am not stupid enough to spend big time in Redcar.
Suffolk. Yes, I know it’s one of the driest parts of the country and one of the reasons I live here, but with barely a splash since March am I allowed to say I’m getting a bit bored of it? Bring back seasons.
Somewhat off-topic, but does anyone know why Héloïse Adélaïde Letissier, better known as Christine (and the Queens) changed her name to "Redcar"? Whatever next - "Skinningrove - the artist formerly known as Taylor Swift"?
After his mother died he kept seeing red cars and saw it as a sign or somthing so adopted Redcar. A few years earlier he tried an arab sounding name but that didn't go down well.
Still doesn't in Redcar.
34 heatwaves in France since 2000 according to the news this evening. Ozone is high at the moment too - cough cough cough - ****ing ICE cars
Bloomin hot and humid today.I was wilting in town.
