Afternoon all,
heading to the Pyrenees for Easter, and driving down there from Roscoff. We'd like to break the journey up as have a 5 yr old with us. We're taking camping stuff, so has anyone got any suggestions for a good place to camp out for a few days that's roughly halfway?

If you are doing roscoff the Vendee coast is peppered with really good sites, St Jean de Monts has a fantastic Beach and a load of cam sites a KM or so back from the coast some of the bigger run by Siblu or similar have very good kids facilities and entertainment, we did a couple of weeks at le bois masson, the sister site just over the road looked equally as good
Arcachon and the Dune du Pyla, lots of camping available there
There's loads of stuff on the atlantic coast from Noirmoutier down to about La Rochelle (as per hustler's comments). My folks live down there half the year and I've been going for about 25 years now and I'd say it's pretty much ideal; not too expensive, lovely weather, great seafood. Try some of the places around Les Sables d'Olonne or La Tranche.

ille de re, off the cost of la rochelle is great if you are into beaches, we went last summer with our little one. There is a wide variety of beaches for sandcastles rock pooling etc and the whole island is covered in cycle paths with bikes every where and its flat so your 5 year old will be able to trundle around happy as larry.

it doesn't have pool which means its less crazy busy and besides from our pitch you could lob a stone over the hedge and it would plop into the sea.
Having camped in France for the last 5 or 6 years, including the Vendee area, our rule of thumb when looking for a new site is to avoid those directly on (or very near) the coast. You'll get much bigger pitches, with more space for kids to run around, if you come inland a few miles.
Some of the bigger coastal sites look like massive refugee camps & they're so busy you daren't let the kids out of your sight.
