Sudden Air con boost…?

So, our aging Kuga has always had pretty poor air con. But yesterday we had the cambelt and water pump changed (at last) and suddenly we have super air-con. No work on the air con - or other work - was undertaken.

I’m intrigued to know why this might be, anyone?

Better circulation of coolant?
Cleaned up the "other" belt and pulleys etc while they had the bonnet open?
Or maybe they've replaced both, cam belt and FEAD Belt.

Ok thanks. That’d make sense if it had deteriorated from new but it hadn’t. It was weak e.g. not very cold from new, has remain consistently weak until yesterday.

Might just be a software update (if it was done at somewhere that has facility to do that.)
Cleaned air filters? (or removed them all together) or someone put it wrong together in the factory and that's been corrected?

Loads of things it could be. Ask the garage that did the work?

Could be the compressor drive belt or maybe there was an issue with a pressure switch or something in that area causing the compressor to not cycle as it should.

May have had to remove pipework to do the work specified. Not sure what access on a Kuga looks like

Could be that they removed the Aircon compressor belt to access the cam belt, and it got re-tensioned properly when they put it back together.

I dont think coolant will have any effect on it.

Nothing to do with coolant so either a new belt so the compressor is driven better or they've had it apart and regarded it.

Yep, almost certain that they will have had something A/C related moved to assist with the belt change so you've had a free air con recharge.

Which just goes to show that you should get it tested and refilled every few years 😀

I kept taking mine to Kwik Fit and they kept telling me it was fine and I didn't need a regas. Eventually I told them to do it anyway, it was miles better.

The garage have inadvertently put the air on recirc and you've not noticed?

The wire that works the magnetic clutch on the aircon compressor had dropped off / never been connected properly and the garage have plugged it back in?
