I've been wanting to add a bit of bass to our ancient but adequate Denon UD-M31 (Mission speakers) for ages, i'm looking at the budget end of the scale.
I've seen this in Richer Sounds & the store guy said its compatible:
https://www.richersounds.com/hi-fi/subwoofers/yamaha-nssw050-black.html
my only issue with it is that i'd need to butt the right side (as you look at it from front) up against a cupboard, the speaker has the port on this side, so its a no-no.
Apparently it has a speaker facing the floor & one facing the front.
Could i turn the speaker upside down ❓
The bottom speaker, would then be facing upwards, but could be protected by a shelf above, and i guess the grill could be re positioned the right way up for aesthetics.
Anyone know if the feet on this speaker are removable❓
Ta.
Thought this thread was going to be about unattractive S&M enthusiasts.
Is disappoint.

Sure it's got 2 drivers? The Yamaha website only details one 8" driver.
Perhaps it has one of those coupled bass radiators, but normally that would be mentioned as a feature?

I don't think having the driver pointing to the wall would be a problem so long as there is a gap of a couple of inches or so. I've had a downward firing sub before...sounded crap in a room with carpet, but on a hard floor it sounded fine...in fact it enhanced the effect, so better than just firing out into space, so pointing towards a wall will have the same effect in all liklihood. It'll be a damn sight better than some people placing them behind a sofa. The frequencies from a sub are non-directional so it doesn't matter what direction they're pointing, and sometimes reflecting of hard surfaces enhances the effect in my experience.
Why are you trying to make your inadequate speakers seem better by buying another speaker?
Surely you’d be better off just upgrading the speakers?
What’s the rest of the system?
MyFirstSubwoofer was a Yamaha passive one 🙂
Dont expect it to blow the doors off, but I have to say, mine was't bad for its size.
How much bass do you want !?! Those systems are really good, especially the speakers. The setup already produces more than enough base.
Have you got the speakers in the wrong place?

This one is active so should have more grunt, I would expect.

Or potentially out of phase? A friend of my brother was really impresed with a micromega system he bought years ago (can't remember what speakers he had). He'd had it set-up for well over a month & was telling me how much he'd been using it. To me it sounded tinny & horrible - far worse than my very budget set-up. I asked if I could have a fiddle about, spent around 2 mins swapping some cables around & BOOM! all of this sound appeared.
He was quite chuffed, but embarrassed at the same time. Hid girlfriend never let him live it down.
Given the improvement in sound quality that I managed to get for him, I should have charged him a couple of hundred quid for my efforts!
