Assuming your own nice dry, secure garage with an existing power supply is optimal for charging an EV (and you can decide what type of charger to install and when to use it), how are those of you with less than ideal setups managing?
For instance, if you live on the top floor of a block of flats? (And, for ebikes, the building manager doesn't allow bikes inside and you don't have a removable battery).
Or have you just ruled out an EV car and/or e-bike as it's not practical to charge them?
Or, more to the point, has anyone got any imaginative solutions that don't involve hacking into street lighting....
For the ev in the scenario you quote, you have to either have a mate who'll let you leach their electric or you pay to use public charging, or you charge at work. Which probably makes running an ev economically and practically less viable than an ice car.
For an ebike, if you have somewhere secure to store it you can use one of those portable power supplies(bluetti, power oak etc) or rig up similar using a leisure battery and an inverter. Can probably get creative with solar panels too. Or maybe a cheapo generator would work for your scenario. You could charge it off your caR battery as long as you kept the engine running. There's probably a lot of creative ways to charge an ebike...
I have the perfect EV charging setup at home.
I have never used it other than to test it the day it was installed a year ago.
I charge at work almost exclusively or public charging when I’m not close to home.
What you describe is the biggest impediment to mass adoption of EVs. I have 2 home chargers - both provided free with each of our EVs through Tusker. I had to use a Granny lead before it was installed, which was manageable, but without even the ability to do that, I wouldn’t do it.
