I'm probably going to make a right arse of myself here buy I don't care as it's driving me bonkers!

I'm trying to measure the current in this simple LED circuit.

Voltage supply is 5 V from the Uno.

The resistor is 220 Ohms.
Vdrop across the resistor is 3 V.
So simple Ohms Law, I=3/220 = 0.136 A or 13.6 mA.

Why is my (Brand new) meter showing 0.07 mA?

Have I connected the meter correctly, as in breaking into the circuit in series?

Come on, make me look daft - I just need to know!

I think that would be correct. Are you sure that is what you have done? Can’t make out the picture that well but looks iffy

and maybe I’m the one who will look like an idiot but what if you remove that short yellow wire?

The short yellow wire is linking the +5 V supply to the resistor.

From the picture, aren’t you measuring in parallel the short orange “jumper” from “+” to “8A”? Which would be taking an amount of current linked to the internal resistance of the meter vs “zero” for the jumper?

I can't tell from the pic but yeah, you effectively have to connect the Meter in series so the circuit won't work without the meter. Perhaps the Neoteck meter isn't the last word in accuracy.

Sussed it.

The short yellow wire is linking the +5 V supply to the resistor.

And so was the meter hence the incorrect reading. You needed either the wire or the meter not both

It was because I'd effectively shorted the meter in my earlier attempt. Now it is in series proper.

Exactly. You could have pulled that one wire and it would have worked
