Raised bed, about 5' wide and around 20' long. Bright area, but not going to get a lot of direct sunshine. Soil is classic North Hampshire silty chalk flint mix.
What to grow? Would like to use it either for something nice to look at and smell, or something tasty to eat.
TIA
Ganja. Lots and lots of ganja.
Pigs. Next.
Have a share in some porkers with friends down the lane, Nobeer! Mmmmm, tasty, tasty pigs. 😊
Hostas are pretty and low hassle.
Veg up!
Sounds ideal for a little veg patch, many veg don't require direct sun - beetroot is, as you would say, totes amazeballs when home-grown and doesn't take up much room.
Same with carrots, tasty as hell and bargain for the space taken up.
Brassicas (such as your cauli, broccoli etc) don't require much sunlight, but they take up a lot of space - bonus is that area won't require as much weeding - with a bed that size you could certainly mix it up a bit. Broccoli will regrow a few florets once the first is cut.
Depending on how much direct sun it gets ( a couple of hours would be enough) onions are a doddle, pop them in and watch them grow. They keep well and again, take up little space.
Get your man to pop into Wilko for the seeds.
Failing that, cover the lot in wildflower seeds and create a bee/butterfly sanctuary.
Raised bed , put decent soil in if local stuff is no good. Huge choice of ferns - hostas are a good call .
Or go all rockery and alpine, to remind yourself of those glorious summer rides in the French mountains.

Sea holly (Erignium tripartitum) to the rear, with a mix of !Rosebay Willowherb! (honestly, a great plant but spreads like mad.) Loads of sedums throughout, esp around the edges of any rocks (you must have rocks, and gravel. And more rocks). Wild strawberries will soon establish from one or two initial plants. And maybe a small area at one a patch of raspberry canes- but beware of them taking over everything. If they begin to spread, nuke them.
Go with bear's veg ^^
try multi coloured carrots and beetroot (lush roasted with yer spuds).
black kale keeps going.
strawberries would work too but do like a bit of sun.
couple of Brussels plants for Christmas dinner.
a mini roundabout? it is Basingstoke after all
NOT EFFING BLAZINGSMOKE!
🤣
Already got enough pampas grass ?
the man doth protest too much 🙂

Sounds lurid.
I read the OP as Guardianistas 😉 I did wonder who had stolen CFHs login
Toss up between wild flowers and veg. If veg you need to think about crop rotation although any effort you put in will repay you many times over. Courgettes are very easy and come in an amazing variety. Beans and peas are also pretty easy and rewarding. Flowers are always nice for the bees and other insects and TBH they need all the help we can given them. As a side bonus the abundance of insects and seeds will also bring in a wide variety of feathered friends. Either way you should be win / win!
Maybe checkout Charles Dowding no dig website if you are interested in growing stuff you can eat. Lots of info and vids on growing veg in the style of bed you have. Sounds obvious but grow what you like to eat. Salads are noticeably better picked fresh, would climbing french beans get up into direct sun? Leeks for next winter, very straightforward to grow and can stay in the ground right through till april. How about herbs? can be v. easy and good return for space. Autumn Raspberries for long harvest season and don't mind a bit of shade.
Sorry Flashy. But that just reads as gibberish to me.
is there something broken with your ‘pooter?
Pumptrack?
if you go for veg, the methods set out in Joy Larkcom's books are very easy to follow.
😂
and rub in my lack of being able to post things while you’re at it.
can you post a picture of your gardening shoes, I could do with cheering up....
