A thread for all useful and useless tips.

Read about this somewhere (may even have been nealglover on 'ere), but my black bumpers on the T4 were looking awful. Back to black is rubbish, but the tip was to use a heat gun. I pinched one from the Co. workshop the other day and only bloody ta bloody daaaa!!!!!

I'd tried oils before but they wash away eventually.

I'd worry more about the rust on that wheel arch.

So what's the process? How close/hot/melty do you have to get them? In a similar vein, I use Linseed Oil, which was a tip from Rusty Spanner on here. Lasts much longer than any of the proprietary products, and if the label is to be believed, at risk of spontaneous combustion. Danger win!

pretty straightforward. You can see the heat effect the surface colour, just move the gun at a steady pace so that it moves on as soon as the plastic has turned black again. Generally about 2" from the surface, but it was a cold breezy day that I did it.

Stoner, I've been looking for similar for my van, I might give that a try (though I'll look in to the longevity of it first). Reckoin a hair dryer would achieve the same? Or should I invest in something butane powered and burny?

Equally, dont let the missus use this on her hair:

Your kid got a splinter? Don’t use tweezers - simply suck it out with a Calpol syringe.

You can also remove scratches and scuffs on interior plastics using a heat gun.

Save on razor blades by using heat gun to melt away stubble, just like a high powered no no.
