Looking at taking up running and my phone is far too bulky for strava.

Can anyone please recommend a GPS watch for about £100 that easily updates strava? Oh and needs to also do cycling too.

I've looked at polar m400 and garmin forerunner 10 & 15...but have no idea?!

Cheers

Same boat here, been looking for a watch rather than a bike computer so I can take it running as well. FR10 seems to be a good "budget" choice from what I can tell. Then there's the polar m400 or Tom Tom runner, all in.the £100 or less bracket. Be interested to hear what people recommend actually.

Forerunner 10 is ace, dead simple to use. I did buy an edge 200 got the bike though, as I don't like wearing a watch on the bike.

Yes, the Forerunner 10 is great for a simple watch. Or the Forerunner 15 if you want heart rate. Works fine for running, and uploading to Strava etc.

For cycling, you could strap it to your handlebars, just use a bit of pipe lagging. Though the screen is fairly small, so not the easiest to read.

I've been torn between the FR15 and the TomTom - I think I prefer the look of the TomTom - and for a few quid more I could get one with the wristbased HRM (which I do like the idea of to be honest as I have never got on with the chest strap HRMs).

I've a garmin 210. Nearly the most basic that comes with a HR (if you want that option)

It's a running watch predominately, so as such limited as a cycling computer while on the bike but if you just want a GPS track that you can transfer easily to Strava then it's good enough cheap enough (Wiggle have them for £135) comfy enough records up to 8 hours on the GPS.

I'd recommend it

Another vote for the FR10. It does the basics well, generally gets a GPS signal quickly and uploads to Garmin/Strava/etc. with the minimum of fuss. Battery life is plenty long unless you're doing ultramarathons too. (Oh and as above, check the DC Rainmaker reviews, they're thorough to say the least!)

Out of budget I know, but I've just got a Microsoft Band. It pairs with your phone for alerts etc, and will upload to Strava after you sync to the phone app.

I get about 4hrs of bike time per charge, but bear in mind this is with optical HRM - this was the main reason I got it as chest strap HRMs irritate my skin.

My Tomtom multisport auto updates to Strava when I connect it to the computer. Having the button on the strap helps keep the profile low which I like.

Can I do a little hijack?

I'm possibly after something basic, but with support for a (Garmin) ANT+ HRM. All I'd really want is distance, time and heart rate.

Cheap as chips is the order of the day so I'll likely be looking secondhand on eBay etc, but what models should I be considering?

Ta.

I've currently got a FR210 and I do like it, apart from the flakey charging.

I am looking to replace it and currently the new FR220 is the favourite as they have improved the charging connection. I have looked at the FR15 but the display appears too limiting as you can only display 2 data sets at a time. I have got used to total distance, time/heart-rate, and pace all being on the same screen, which you can't do on the FR15.

Is it possible to get a small watch with altimeter recording so that you can get ascent and descent details for the route?
And less than £200?

Slightly over your budget is the Garmin FR220 which records the altimeter. I think the Tom Tom multi sport records it too. Not used the later but my cousin who does use one is impressed with hers. The wife and myself both use the FR220 and love them. Very easy to measure progress from time through to cadence.

My wife has a Forerunner 15 and she likes it. I'm not quite so keen due to it not doing instantaneous pace, which is a feature I do use - but it's not something she cares about.

EpicSteve. I'm pretty sure it will, if it's like the forerunner 10 it'll only give you your current pace if you have virtual pacer turned on.

On the 10 you can also change the pace field to give you either complete run pace, current lap pace or moving pace.

My mistake - it's a 110 my wife has. I use a 220 myself.

Sony smart watch three for me. Does all the GPS things and also stores a good few songs for pairing with blue tooth headphones.. And it's rather good as a smart watch aswell which is a bonus..

I'd second the DCRainmaker site, very detailed user-focussed reviews. I have a Garmin 310XT and, if it's any help, would suggest you don't get one. Downloading it is epically tedious if it plays up (which is does 10% of the time).
