To be honest, I could have gone for any number of Gojira tracks, from any of their albums.
Agreed. Same with Machine Head and Lamb of God for me, but choices must be made!
Are we on to the Prog CD then?
1 - Anesthetize - Porcupine Tree.
2 - Jambi - Tool

Someone at work lent me a cd of a band called Avenged Sevenfold, now then.. the cd cover I can't remember but the first track on it was immense.. sort of new age thrash metal..
So, if anyone knows a song of this caliber by them then can they post it because I've trawled through YouTube and the handful I've played don't ring any bells.
Ta.
Someone at work lent me a cd of a band called Avenged Sevenfold
How long ago was that?
Their latest album is called 'The Stage', and the first track is of the same name:

I'll check the two you guys have posted...
Hail to the King sounds plausible ...
Shall we have that ?
I couldn't possible sway another's opinion. Hail to the king is great though.
Currently listening to the first CD just finished bleed.
Works really well.
+1 Refused New Noise really like it.
Keep 'em coming! If we get to 6 I'll post each CD and track listing to make it easier to find.

What this is crying out for is some Opeth!
Either:
Or
Hmmm tricky one: Both awesome tracks but, if pushed, I'd go for Ghost of Perdition.

Prog?!?I'm sitting this one out.
See above - Opeth voted best international band at the Prog Awards this year...
Prog is a lot more than twee references to JRR Tolkien; see also Soft Machine, Gentle Giant, Greenslade, King Crimson, much more about jazz than epic fantasy.
Mikey74, I wasn't sure myself, so I thought I'd let the OP make his own mind up!

That's selling it SO much better...

Quite.
Listen to Anesthetize. Loud.
Can I be the first to put some Prophets of Rage in there? Un**** the World!
This thread is proof of why, sometimes, democracy doesn't work.

Well, what do you know about prog music that puts you off? What have you actually heard?
The very first rock album I ever listened to, that I borrowed from a school mate was King Crimson's 'In The Court Of The Crimson King', which opens with '21st Century Schizoid Man', a pretty blistering piece of heavy rock, with significant jazz influences, and for 1968, different to anything I'd ever heard on the radio. Prog is, after all, short for 'progressive rock', meaning it's anything that isn't 12-bar mindless boogie.
Sadly, it degenerated into the musical equivalent of 1000 page fantasy trilogies that infest the shelves of bookshops;
a load of self-indulgent twaddle. Or should that be twiddle? Either works...
Jethro Tull is classed as Prog, as is Opeth, Metallica and Slayer aren't, it's a very broad church, and has much that's worth investigation, like Crimson's later albums such as Discipline, Red, Three Of A Perfect Pair; Starless, from Red, is a stunning piece of music, about as far removed from the excesses of Tales From Topographic Oceans as it's possible to get!
Alice In Chains - Bleed The Freak
Annnd bringing it back down the road of Rock/Metal....
We've seemed to have overlooked a game changer, a band from the late 80's that gelled metal and story telling together to produce arguably and epic never to be bettered... so to represent them I'm choosing..
Operation Mindcrime - Queensr?che.
I thank you.
I have just discovered Kvelertak and they're the best thing I've heard in years. As luck would have it they did a gig here on friday, a couple of weeks after I found them, and I went absolutely insane for it. Godlike.
Also bonus, old Norwegian throat shredding.
Impossible to choose a single song really, but I'm going with
Kvelertak: Liktorn
